Abstract

Family support is an important determinant of postpartum maternal health behavior and decision-making. This study aims to determine the effect of family support on postpartum mothers' decisions to use traditional massage during the postpartum period. A quasi-experimental study with a single-group pretest-posttest design was conducted on 65 early postpartum mothers at the Jambula Community Health Center, Ternate City, from September to October 2025. Participants were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire that measured family support and decision-making related to traditional massage before and after the educational intervention. Univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analyses were performed using SPSS version 21.0. Bivariate analysis used the chi-square test, while multivariate analysis used multiple logistic regression to identify dominant factors influencing postpartum mothers' decisions. The majority of respondents were aged 20–35 years (75.4%), had a high school education (78.5%), and were housewives (84.6%). Bivariate analysis showed a significant association between family support (p = 0.001), education (p = 0.018), and parity (p = 0.032) and the decision to use traditional massage. Multivariate logistic regression identified family support as the most dominant factor (AOR = 5.82; 95% CI: 1.94–17.46; p = 0.002). Family support was the strongest predictor of postpartum mothers' decisions to use traditional massage. Healthcare providers should integrate family-centered education into postpartum care to optimize maternal recovery outcomes.
