This study aimed to evaluate the effect of rearing system (intensive and free-range), village of origin, and their interaction on the quality of local duck eggs in Sumbang District, Banyumas Regency, and to identify which rearing system produced the best egg quality. The research was conducted in three villages (Karanggintung, Datar, and Karangcegak) using a completely randomized design with a 2 × 3 factorial pattern and three replications, where each replicate represented the average of duplicate eggs from one of three farmers per treatment combination (36 fresh eggs, 18 observational units in total). We measured egg weight, egg shape index, yolk index, albumen index, Haugh unit, and yolk color score. We analyzed the data using analysis of variance, followed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test when significant differences were found. The results showed that rearing system significantly affected egg weight (P<0.05) and yolk color (P<0.01), and the System × Village interaction was highly significant for both traits, forming a disordinal (crossover) pattern. Egg shape index, yolk index, albumen index, and Haugh unit were not significantly affected by any source of variation. Intensive rearing produced heavier eggs and markedly more intense yolk color than free-range rearing, although the advantage of the intensive system over free-range depended on the availability of natural feed resources in each village.
