Research Objectives: This study aims to analyze the effect of leadership style on work motivation and employee performance and to examine the mediating role of work motivation in the relationship between leadership style and employee performance in a disaster management organization. Design/ Methodology / Approach Research: This study employed a quantitative research design with an associative approach. The population consisted of 70 employees of the Regional Disaster Management Agency of South Sulawesi Province, including Civil Servants and Government Employees with Employment Agreements. Since the population comprised fewer than 100 employees, a saturated sampling technique (total sampling) was employed, involving all 70 employees as respondents. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using linear regression and path analysis to examine the direct and indirect relationships among the variables. Research Results: The results demonstrate that leadership style has a positive and significant effect on work motivation and employee performance. Work motivation also has a positive and significant effect on employee performance. Furthermore, work motivation mediates the effect of leadership style on employee performance. The indirect effect of leadership style on employee performance through work motivation is 0.575, which is greater than the direct effect of 0.246, indicating the important role of work motivation in strengthening the relationship between leadership style and employee performance. Implications of Research Results: The findings imply that disaster management organizations need to develop effective and adaptive leadership styles capable of enhancing employee work motivation. Strengthening motivation through supervisory support, recognition, career development, and a conducive work environment can serve as an important strategy for improving employee performance, particularly in high-risk and high-pressure working environments.
