Abstract

Arabic holds a crucial position as a language of communication, science, and religion. Its grammatical system, known as the science of grammar (nahwu), plays a central role in determining the structure and meaning of sentences. Among the main elements in grammar are the verb tense (fi’il madhi) and verb tense (fi’il mudhari) as two categories of verbs that form the basis of the number of verbs. This article aims to examine the definition, classification, characteristics, functions, and relationships of the verb tense (fi’il madhi) and verb tense (fi’il mudhari) with other elements in Arabic sentences. The study uses a qualitative approach with a literature study method through a review of classical grammar books and modern Arabic linguistic references. The results of the study indicate that a comprehensive understanding of the verb tense (fi’il madhi) and verb tense (fi’il mudhari) significantly influences the ability to read, comprehend, and construct grammatically in Arabic sentences. The verb tense (fi’il madhi) serves as a marker of past events and the basis for forming other verb forms in the science of grammar (ṣarf), while the verb tense (fi’il mudhari) indicates ongoing events, habits, or the future. Both have an inseparable structural relationship in the syntactic system of Arabic.
