This study aims to identify problems regarding public furniture in the form of seating facilities on Jalan Tunjungan. The misuse of non-chair products that occurs on Jalan Tunjungan, Surabaya City is increasingly occurring due to the lack of chairs and the large number of visitors to Jalan Tunjungan causing visitors to feel uncomfortable and unsafe when sitting on non-chair products such as bollards (road dividers) and stairs in front of shops. The chairs on Jalan Tunjungan also still have many shortcomings that still do not meet the needs and demands of visitors. Based on this, the background of this research and design is the opportunity to design public furniture products in the form of seating facilities that are able to provide a sense of comfort, safety, answer the needs of visitors, without having to abandon the Dutch colonial design style that has become the hallmark of Jalan Tunjungan. The method used in this research is applied research with a qualitative and quantitative approach (mixed method), which includes questionnaires, documentation, Behavioral Studies, Existing Product Studies (observation), and the Design Thinking method used as the design of this seating facility product. This research and design are expected to be a reference for the arrangement of sidewalk/corridor chairs on Jalan Tunjungan, and are able to be comfortable, safe seats and meet the needs of visitors.
