Abstract

Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) in pregnant women is a nutritional problem that can increase the risk of complications during pregnancy and childbirth, as well as impact the health of both mother and baby. An unbalanced diet is suspected to be one of the factors contributing to CED; however, empirical evidence from various regions still shows mixed results. This study aims to analyze the effect of dietary patterns among pregnant women on the incidence of Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) in the service area of the Sei Pinang Community Health Center (UPT Puskesmas). The study employed a quantitative analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 30 pregnant women selected using total sampling. Dietary data were collected via a questionnaire, while CED status was determined based on Upper Arm Circumference (UAC) measurements. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate methods with the Lambda test at a 95% significance level. The results showed that the majority of respondents had poor dietary patterns (93.3%), while CED was found in 10.0% of respondents. Statistical test results showed no significant association between the dietary patterns of pregnant women and the prevalence of KEK (p=0.667). These findings indicate that the prevalence of KEK is not solely influenced by dietary patterns but is also likely influenced by other factors such as health status, physical activity, economic status, and individual characteristics. The results of this study provide a basis for strengthening nutrition education efforts, monitoring nutritional status, and implementing more comprehensive interventions in antenatal care to prevent chronic energy deficiency in pregnant women.
