<![CDATA[The objective of this community service initiative is to equip partner groups with the knowledge and skills to apply carbon steel hardening technology using the OAW (Oxy-Acetylene Welding) method and oil quenching. This step was taken to address the low quality of the partners’ metal products, which was caused by a lack of understanding regarding ideal heat treatment procedures. The methods adopted include material delivery, work demonstrations, independent practice in the use of OAW, and evaluation of the final material results. In practice, carbon steel is heated using an OAW flame to the optimal temperature and then rapidly cooled in an oil medium to strengthen the metal’s surface layer. The outcomes of the activity demonstrated positive changes in the partners’ cognitive understanding and skills regarding the heat treatment process. The partner group has also been able to utilize this technology to produce metals that are stronger, more wear-resistant, and of high utility value. The application of this appropriate technology is expected to provide an affordable and practical solution for local workshops and small industries.]]>
