In the 21st century, education must prioritize teaching based on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). This is because the HOTS-based education process has become a global need. This study aimwasto study how the description of the ability of high school students (SMA) in solving HOTS-type physics problems. This type of research is a descriptive quantitative with survey method. The sample used inthe study was a saturated sample with a total of 166 students of class X MIPA at the school. Data collection was carried out by giving a valid HOTS-type test instrument to the research subject. The data obtained questions is still classified in the medium category, as seen from the percentage of HOTS students which is dominated by the medium category, which is 65.06% or 108 students. This becomes a need for special attention for institutions related to education, especially educators who shouldbe able to innovate in the learning process to improve the ability of students to solve HOTS-type questions as well as for trainingtheir higher-order thinking skills.
