Faculty of Teacher Training and Education Of, Asahan University, Advisor : Sri Rahma Dewi Saragih, S.Pd, M.Pd.The aim of this study is to describe the difficulties experienced by VIIIth Class students of SMP Negeri 1 Kualuh downstream in solving word problems in mathematics learning, especially on the main material of building space. This study belongs to a qualitative descriptive research. It was conducted in the even semester. The population in this study is all VIIIth Class students Of SMP Negeri 1 Kualuh downstream with a total of 27 students. The sample was taken using a simple random sampling technique, taking at least 30% of the total population, namely a minimum of 8 people. The instruments used were diagnostic tests, interviews and documentation. The results of the are concluded that: 1) Students experienced conceptual difficulties due to the difficulties in determining what was known and asked. 2) Students experience such difficulties in principle for they are wrong in determining the formula. 3) Students have got difficulties in writing conclusions at the end of the answer to the questions given.Keywords: Analysis, story questions, building space]]>
