The problem of scarcity of original factory axle shaft components on P6 car vehicles in 2006 has driven the need for second-grade alternative products to meet functional and economic aspects. The manufacturing objective is to obtain a second-grade P6 car axle shaft with a diameter of 54 mm, a thickness of 3 mm, a length of 333 mm with a yoke measuring 77 mm x 72 mm long x 63.8 mm wide from medium carbon steel, AISI 4140. The manufacturing method includes: axle shaft design, AISI 4140 material preparation, yoke milling to 72 x 70 x 57 mm, yoke forging to 72 x 63.8 x 57 mm, yoke hardening and tempering, yoke drilling to 22 mm diameter, shaft and yoke welding, and quality and dimension inspection. The manufacturing results are in the form of a second quality P6 car axle shaft with a diameter of 54 mm, a thickness of 3 mm, a length of 333 mm, AISI 4140 material, a total production cost of IDR 433,300-/unit, and a process duration of 300 minutes/unit which implies that the need for a P6 car axle shaft, a 1000 cm3 car, in 2006 can be met, so that this type of car can be used again.
