<![CDATA[After the 1998 reform, Indonesia adopted a procedural democracy system that emphasizes regular and competitive elections; however, this procedural success is now facing a sociological paradox in the form of the rise of "Structural Aristocracy." This study aims to conceptualize and dissect this phenomenon as a new mechanism for perpetuating elite power through the manipulation of formal political party institutions. Unlike traditional political dynasties based on lineage, structural aristocracy operates by converting social, economic, and symbolic capital into public office through a distorted meritocracy scheme within parties. Using a descriptive qualitative method through literature review and critical analysis of secondary data from the Nagara Institute and Perludem, this study applies the perspective of neopatrimonialism and Pierre Bourdieu's theory of capital. The research findings indicate that structural aristocracy has caused a systemic obstruction of vertical social mobility channels for non-kinship cadres and triggered political despair among the younger generation, where the dominance of kinship-based candidates reaches 60% in local election contests as a result of the normalization of privileges wrapped in the narrative of "citizens' human rights." This phenomenon transforms political parties into exclusive "family firms" that threaten the essence of democracy, where popular sovereignty is reduced to mere formality. In conclusion, structural aristocracy poses a tangible threat to the sustainability of substantive democracy, thus requiring the strengthening of internal party meritocracy, reform of candidacy regulations, and critical political education to break the cycle of modern oligarchy disguised behind democratic institutions. .]]>
