Abstract

Musculoskeletal disorders are among the leading causes of disability and frequently require hospital care. This study aimed to analyze the sociodemographic characteristics of hospitalized patients with musculoskeletal disorders and to examine the distribution of diagnoses across different anatomical body regions and their associated sociodemographic factors. A quantitative observational study was conducted using secondary data from the medical records of 421 hospitalized patients diagnosed with musculoskeletal disorders at Gunung Jati Regional Hospital in Cirebon City, Indonesia, between December 2023 and December 2024. Diagnoses were classified into nine anatomical body regions based on the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire framework. Descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and binary logistic regression were performed. Lower back disorders were the most common diagnosis (41.1%), followed by wrist/hand (22.1%) and knee disorders (11.9%). Sex, age, marital status, educational attainment, and occupation were significantly associated with specific anatomical regions, whereas place of residence was not. Female sex independently predicted wrist/hand disorders, while marital status and occupation independently predicted lower back disorders. These findings indicated that sociodemographic characteristics influenced musculoskeletal disorders differently across anatomical regions, highlighting the importance of region-specific and patient-centered strategies for prevention, early detection, and clinical management.
