Abstract

The construction of the New Ciparay Market is a public infrastructure project requiring special attention to environmental sustainability. As a hub of community economic activity with high foot traffic, the market has a significant environmental impact; consequently, the use of "green materials" in structural works has become a priority to reduce the carbon footprint and create a healthy environment for vendors and visitors. This study aims to evaluate the compliance of the structural materials used in the project—specifically K-350 Ready-Mix Concrete from PT Pionir Beton Indonesia and steel from PT Gunung Garuda and PT Lautan Steel Indonesia—with green material standards. The research employs a descriptive-evaluative qualitative approach, utilizing a comparative analysis against criteria set by the Green Building Council Indonesia (GBCI) and international standards. Evaluation parameters cover nine criteria: CFC content, durability, recycled material content, renewable sources, environmental certification, local material sourcing, Environmental Product Declarations (EPD), carbon footprint, and hazardous substance content. The results indicate varying levels of compliance: Pionir Concrete at 67% (very good), Gunung Garuda Steel at 67% (very good), and Lautan Steel at 56% (good). The primary structural materials still exhibit significant shortcomings regarding EPD documentation, carbon footprint transparency, and verification of recycled material content. Recommendations include incorporating green material requirements into technical specifications for government projects, mandating the provision of EPDs and ISO 14001 certification from suppliers, and implementing a structured green material verification system for public infrastructure projects.
