The alpine tree fern (Dryopteris wallichiana) is a species of fern commonly used as forage by local communities on the slopes of Mount Slamet, Banyumas Regency. This study aimed to identify the nutrient composition and fermentability of alpine tree fern (Dryopteris wallichiana) collected from three elevation zones: K1 (625–725 m above sea level), K2 (726–825 m above sea level), and K3 (826–925 m above sea level). This exploratory collected sample from four villages, namely Karangsalam Lor, Kemutug Lor, Karangmangu, and Limpakuwus. Samples were dried, ground, and composited based on elevation zone. Proximate analysis showed average values of 78.44% moisture, 10.36% ash, 24.67% crude fiber, 12.62% crude protein, 1.89% ether extract, and 50.46% nitrogen-free extract (NFE). In vitro fermentability analysis resulted in dry matter digestibility (DMD) of 25.6%, organic matter digestibility (OMD) of 37.05%, volatile fatty acid (VFA) concentration of 93.11 mM, and total gas production of 20 ml/g. The results indicate variations in nutrient composition and fermentability of alpine tree fern across different elevation zones.
