This research is driven by the high frequency of disturbances caused by lightning strikes on the Medium Voltage Overhead Line (SUTM) network at the Surabrata Feeder, PT PLN (Persero) South Bali Area, which recorded 8 disturbances between October 2024 and February 2026. These disturbances were triggered by the open geographical terrain and induction from lightning strikes on trees surrounding the network, while the previous arrester chamber protection system had a resistance value of 6.68 Ω, which was suboptimal in providing adequate protection. This study aims to analyze the influence of installing Ground Steel Wire (GSW) and a grounding system on the reduction of lightning disturbances and to determine its effectiveness. The method employed is quantitative, utilizing direct field measurement techniques of grounding resistance values conducted seven times at different intervals to ensure data accuracy. The results indicate that the installation of 998 meters of GSW using three parallel rod electrodes produced an average grounding resistance value of 1.70 Ω. This value complies with the SPLN D5.008-1 standard, which mandates a maximum resistance value of 5 Ω. The implementation of this grounding system proved to be highly effective, as it successfully reduced the frequency of lightning-related disturbances significantly from 8 occurrences to only 1.
