Residential construction involves the process of building or renovating houses and settlement areas to create a habitable living environment, including the provision of infrastructure, facilities, and public utilities. To prevent structural failures, it is essential to determine the soil bearing capacity in order to design a robust and earthquake-resistant structure. Therefore, a soil investigation using the Cone Penetration Test (CPT) method is required beforehand. The CPT is a field testing technique specifically designed to evaluate and assess the strength characteristics of subsurface soil layers. This investigation was conducted in Kuripan Village, Kuripan District, West Lombok Regency, with the objectives of determining the resulting bearing capacity and identifying the most suitable foundation type for the research site. Secondary data were obtained from various literature reviews, while primary data were collected from CPT results at three predetermined test locations. The analysis revealed that cone resistance (qc) values reached ≥ 250 kg/cm². Specifically, at the first test point (SO-1), this resistance was observed at depths of 1.60 to 2.80 meters (clay mixed with dense rock); at the second test point (SO-2), at depths of 0.80 to 1.20 meters (clay mixed with dense rock); and at the third test point (SO-3), at depths of 2.80 to 3.60 meters (sandy clay mixed with dense rock). Based on these findings, the appropriate foundation types for the soil conditions in Batu Layar, Batu Layar District, West Lombok Regency, are shallow foundations and deep pile foundations.
