Muscle cramps are a common complication experienced by patients undergoing hemodialysis, resulting from changes in fluid balance, electrolytes, and muscle perfusion. This condition causes pain and discomfort and compromises the adequacy of hemodialysis, necessitating effective non-pharmacological interventions such as intradialysis exercise. This study aimed to determine the effect of intradialysis exercise therapy on the occurrence of muscle cramps in hemodialysis patients at the Hemodialysis Unit of BaliMed Hospital, Denpasar. A pre-experimental design specifically a one-group pretest-posttest design was employed. The study sample consisted of 23 respondents selected via purposive sampling. Muscle cramp severity was measured using the Cramp Questionnaire Chart before and after the intradialysis exercise intervention. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The results showed that prior to the intervention, the majority of respondents experienced moderate muscle cramps, whereas after the intervention, most respondents did not experience muscle cramps. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test yielded a p-value of 0.001 (p<0.05), thus it can be concluded that intradialysis exercise therapy has a significant effect on reducing the incidence of muscle cramps among hemodialysis patients at the Hemodialysis Unit of BaliMed Hospital, Denpasar.
