Abstract

The rapid development of urban residential areas has made the need for green open spaces (RTH) increasingly important in supporting environmental quality and community comfort. Manggala District, Makassar City, is one of the developing areas experiencing increased residential development, potentially creating inequalities in the distribution and affordability of green open spaces. This study aims to analyze the accessibility of public green open spaces (GOS) in the form of parks to residential areas in Manggala District, Makassar City, based on the park service hierarchy. The study employed a quantitative-descriptive approach, with a quantitative approach as the main method through spatial analysis using a Geographic Information System (GIS), namely buffer analysis to determine the service coverage of each park hierarchy and intersect analysis to assess its accessibility to residential areas, supported by a descriptive qualitative approach. The results show that green open spaces in Manggala District are available in only three hierarchies, namely community-level, sub-district-level, and district-level parks. In terms of accessibility, district-level parks are able to serve the entire residential area (100%), while community-level parks cover only 22.16% and sub-district-level parks cover only 0.61% of the total residential area. This study concludes that GOS provision in Manggala District remains uneven across park hierarchies, with neighborhood-scale parks (community and sub-district) having the lowest coverage. Therefore, more equitable distribution of GOS at these scales should be prioritized in future green open space planning.
