Abstract

Adolescent dietary patterns increasingly include fast food, which commonly contains high levels of sodium, fat, sugar, and energy and may contribute to noncommunicable disease risk. Health education delivered through video can combine visual and auditory information and may support adolescent learning. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of video media in improving adolescents’ knowledge, attitudes, and practices concerning the impact of fast food on hypertension risk at SMA Negeri 20 Palembang within the Gandus Community Health Center service area in 2026. A quantitative pre-experimental study used a one-group pretest–posttest design with repeated measurement. A total of 105 grade XI students were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires at pretest, posttest 1 immediately after the intervention, and posttest 2 as a follow-up measurement. The primary effectiveness analysis compared pretest and posttest 1 using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test because the data were not normally distributed; posttest 2 was analyzed descriptively. Mean knowledge increased from 88.36 to 93.17, attitude increased from 82.71 to 85.12, while practice scores changed from 37.86 to 34.00. Wilcoxon testing showed a significant difference in knowledge (p=0.004) and practice (p=0.027), but not attitude (p=0.174). At posttest 2, mean knowledge was 90.69, attitude 88.99, and practice 51.13. The findings indicate that video education was associated with significant changes in knowledge and practice scores, whereas the change in attitude was not statistically significant. Follow-up measurements provide descriptive information and should be interpreted cautiously because other experiences or information may have occurred during the one-month interval.
