Hypertension is a chronic disease characterized by blood pressure ≥140/90 mmHg with risk of cardiovascular complications. Patient knowledge and family support are believed to play roles in disease control. This study aimed to analyze the relationship of knowledge level and family support with hypertension severity in Dusun III, Tanjung Anom Village, Deli Serdang Regency. A quantitative correlational study with cross-sectional design was conducted. The sample consisted of 34 hypertension patients selected by total sampling. Instruments included a 15-item knowledge questionnaire (true–false scoring) and a 17-item family support questionnaire using a Likert scale. Blood pressure was measured with a sphygmomanometer and categorized based on the Indonesian Ministry of Health 2021 guidelines. Data were analyzed with Spearman Rank correlation (α = 0.05). Results showed a significant relationship between knowledge level and hypertension severity (ρ = 0.457; p = 0.007) and between family support and hypertension severity (ρ = 0.570; p < 0.001), both with positive direction. These findings indicate meaningful associations that must be interpreted cautiously given the cross-sectional design that cannot establish causation. Family-based education and routine blood pressure monitoring at primary care are recommended to optimize disease management.
