Facial wash is a facial cleansing product widely used by the community to maintain skin hygiene. However, most products on the market still contain synthetic ingredients that have the potential to cause skin irritation. Jamblang leaves (Syzygium cumini) contain bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and alkaloids which have the potential as natural ingredients in cosmetic formulations. This study aimed to formulate and evaluate the characteristics of facial wash preparations containing ethanol extract of jamblang leaves. This study used an experimental method. Jamblang leaf extract was obtained through maceration with 70% ethanol solvent, then formulated into facial wash preparations with extract concentration variations of 2.5%, 5%, and 10%. Evaluation of the preparations included organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, foam height, and skin irritation tests. The results showed that jamblang leaf ethanol extract contained flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, tannins, and triterpenoids. All formulas were homogeneous with characteristic colors and aromas, had pH values within the skin pH range, and produced good foam. The irritation test showed that the preparations did not cause irritation reactions. Based on the results, it was concluded that jamblang leaf ethanol extract can be formulated into facial wash preparations that meet the physical evaluation requirements and are safe to use. This preparation has the potential as an alternative natural-based facial cleanser. Further research is recommended to test antibacterial activity and preparation stability more comprehensively.
