Abstract

Previous studies have largely examined algorithmic control and income stability through separate outcomes, leaving their simultaneous relationship with platform workers' perceived target pressure insufficiently understood. This study examines the associations of Algorithmic Governance and Income Consistency with Perceived Target Pressure among 80 platform-based ride-hailing and delivery drivers in Pontianak, Indonesia. The first 80 complete responses submitted by the predetermined closing date of 30 April 2026 were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The study integrates Management Control Systems and Behavioral Accounting, while Agency Theory contextualizes platform–driver information asymmetry. Algorithmic Governance was positively associated with Perceived Target Pressure (B = 0.640, β = 0.458, p < 0.001), whereas Income Consistency was negatively associated with Perceived Target Pressure (B = −0.490, β = −0.391, p = 0.003). The model was statistically significant, F(2, 77) = 7.069, p = 0.002, and accounted for 15.5% of the observed variance (R² = 0.155; adjusted R² = 0.133). The study's novelty lies in examining both predictors simultaneously within an integrated management-control and behavioral-accounting framework. It contributes context-specific evidence from platform drivers in Pontianak. The findings indicate distinct conditional associations, but the cross-sectional design does not establish causality or predictor dominance.
