School security is an essential aspect of creating a safe and conducive learning environment. However, conventional security systems that rely on CCTV and manual patrols are not capable of providing real-time alerts for security threats or potential fire hazards. This study aims to design and develop a school security Internet of Things (IoT)-based monitoring system utilizing an ESP32-CAM, PIR sensor, MQ2 sensor, buzzer, and Telegram as the notification platform. The research employed the Research and Development (R&D) method, which consisted of needs analysis, system design, implementation, and testing. The results showed that the proposed system was successfully implemented and all components functioned properly. The PIR sensor was able to detect motion within an effective range of up to 5 meters, activate the buzzer, capture images using the ESP32-CAM, and send real-time notifications along with captured images via Telegram. In addition, the MQ2 sensor successfully detected smoke, activated the buzzer, and transmitted warning notifications through Telegram. Therefore, the developed system is capable of providing real-time school security monitoring and early warning notifications for potential security threats and fire incidents.
