Cognitive function is the brain's ability to think, remember, and understand, which tends to decline with increasing age. Cognitive impairment in the elderly, if not detected early, can progress to dementia and affect the independence and quality of life of the elderly. Based on 2024 data from Desa Ledug, the elderly population reached 1,475 people (12.4% of the total population), yet data on the cognitive function status of the elderly in this area were not previously available. This study aimed to describe cognitive function based on the characteristics of the elderly in Desa Ledug, Kembaran District, Banyumas Regency. This study used a quantitative descriptive method with a cross-sectional approach. A sample of 149 elderly individuals was selected using proportional random sampling, with the sample size calculated through G*Power power analysis. Data were collected using the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) instrument. The results showed that the majority of respondents were aged 60-74 years (73.2%), female (68.5%), had a basic education level (62.4%), and were working (59.1%). Most respondents had normal cognitive function (51.0%), with the highest proportion found in the 45-59 age group, males, those with higher education, and those who were working. Cognitive impairment was more common among those aged 75-90 years, females, those with basic education, and those not working. Early detection and continuous community-based cognitive stimulation programs for the elderly are needed.
