Abstract

This study aims to examine the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications as supporting tools for university students in academic writing. The study is motivated by various difficulties faced by students in writing scientific papers, particularly in finding, mapping, managing, and understanding relevant references from both national and international sources. The development of AI technology provides opportunities to help students obtain scholarly information more quickly and efficiently. This study employs a literature review method by examining relevant literature on the use of AI technology to support academic writing. The results indicate that three applications can be utilized by students, namely Open Knowledge Maps, Publish or Perish, and Consensus AI. Open Knowledge Maps helps map literature based on topics, enabling students to understand the relationships among relevant studies more easily. Publish or Perish assists students in searching for and managing relevant academic references from various scholarly databases. Meanwhile, Consensus AI helps users search for academic literature and obtain information summaries based on research findings. The use of these three applications can improve the efficiency of reference searching and support students in preparing scientific papers. However, their use should be accompanied by critical thinking, source verification, and adherence to academic integrity principles.
