Traditional tofu packaging does not keep fresh and has poor structural integrity throughout transportation, which affects the perspective of the consumer. In this work, Kansei Engineering is applied to build emotional, functional, and sustainable packaging for small-scale tofu producers. Data were acquired from 100 respondents using semantic differential questionnaires through non-probability purposive sampling approach. The initial pool of 40 Kansei terms was reduced to 18 main features using frequency analysis. The 18 attributes were grouped into five key dimensions: attractiveness, packaging standards, durability, informativeness and environmental friendliness. The conjoint analysis and normalised unity value calculation indicated that the High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) packaging (Sample 4) scored the highest across all the Kansei dimensions, especially with respect to resilience (4.97) and environmental friendliness (4.96). The originality of this study is in integrating abstract consumer emotional reactions with tangible sustainable material selection successfully filling a crucial gap in perishable food packaging literature. The results offer a data-driven framework for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to improve product value, market competitiveness and sustainability.
