Abstract

The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly generative technologies such as ChatGPT, has transformed English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning by providing accessible and interactive learning support. Despite its benefits, the responsible use of AI in educational settings remains a significant concern. This study examines the integration of AI in EFL learning with a focus on academic integrity and effective language learning practices. Using a qualitative library research approach, relevant literature on AI-assisted language learning, digital literacy, and educational ethics was reviewed and synthesized. The findings reveal that AI supports EFL learning through personalized instruction, immediate feedback, and increased learner autonomy. However, challenges such as overreliance on AI, reduced critical thinking, and risks of academic misuse, including plagiarism, were also identified. Ethical principles, including transparency, accountability, and appropriate pedagogical guidance, are essential for responsible implementation. The study concludes that AI can enhance EFL learning when integrated in a balanced and ethical manner that supports, rather than replaces, human learning processes.
