Viral infections in children are a common health problem, often presenting with similar symptoms such as fever, skin rashes, cough, runny nose, and swollen lymph nodes. The similarity of these symptoms can make the diagnostic process difficult, especially in the early stages of the disease. The problems faced at RSU Putri Bidadari Stabat include a diagnostic process that still relies on the experience of healthcare professionals, limited service time, and the absence of a system that can assist diagnosis systematically. This study aims to develop an expert system for diagnosing viral infections in children based on their symptoms using the Dempster-Shafer method. The Dempster-Shafer method is used to handle uncertainty and combine various pieces of evidence in the form of symptoms to obtain a confidence value for possible diseases. The developed system provides information regarding the diagnosis and confidence level based on the symptoms selected by the user. Based on the test results, the Dempster-Shafer method can be applied to diagnose viral infections in children. The test results show that Roseola obtained the highest confidence value of 0.7696 or 76.96%. Therefore, the developed expert system can assist the diagnostic process more quickly and consistently and provide preliminary information to support appropriate treatment for children.
