Abstract

Mining activities in Kalumata, South Ternate, have altered the landform and produced high, steep excavation slopes that may increase erosion and landslide potential. This study evaluates slope geometry modelling and the factor of safety (FS) using the Limit Equilibrium method in GeoSlope/W (GeoStudio 2018). Two-dimensional unreinforced slope models were analyzed for inclinations of 30°, 40°, 50°, 60°, and 70°. The Mohr-Coulomb material model used a unit weight of 21 kN/m³, cohesion of 2.46 kN/m², and internal friction angle of 39.24°. The calculated FS values were 3.199, 2.176, 1.676, 1.579, and 1.329, respectively. The factor of safety decreased as slope inclination increased. Within the study data, all modeled slopes were classified as stable, while the 70° slope was the most critical because it produced the lowest FS. The results confirm that flattening the slope improves stability and can support evaluation of the Kalumata excavation slope arrangement.
