The Tanjung Jabung region is the largest producer of petroleum and natural gas in Jambi. However, this region is still undeveloped when viewed from several regional social indicators such as HDI, the percentage of poverty, and education. In this study the authors explored the condition of the Tanjung Jabung as an energy barn area and compared it to other regions in Jambi Province. This study uses descriptive analysis and comparative analysis. The results of the study show that the high economic growth of the Tanjung Jabung originates mainly from oil and gas. Having abundant natural resources from the mining sector, the percentage of poor people is the biggest. In addition, petroleum and natural gas mining is not able to absorb local labor. Regional expenditures, some of which come from profit-sharing funds from petroleum and natural gas producing regions for social purposes, are deemed unable to alleviate problems in the community. A transparency is needed in the management of revenue sharing funds and an increase in the number of educated workers through quality education.
