Wetland is a main factor in the production process of paddy plant. Wetland conversion to non-agricultural use would threaten the food security because of lower rice production capacity. The impact of wetland conversion on food production is cumulative. This paper aims to examine the development of wetland conversion and its impact on rice production in D.I. Yogyakarta Province. This study used time series data for the period 1993 – 2017. The results showed that during the period 1993 to 2017, wetland conversion in D.I. Yogyakarta Province reached 9.02 thousand hectares. Irrigated wetland conversion was greater than the total wetland conversion, while the area of non-irrigated wetland increased. Sleman Regency experienced the highest wetland conversion which reached 6.21 thousand hectares. Rice production loss due to wetland conversion reached 1,026.88 thousand tons of milled rice equivalent to 626.34 thousand tons of rice
