The Motui River is influenced by plantations, fish ponds, mining, and nickel processing industries. This study assessed its water quality using the Pollution Index in the Decree of the Minister of Environment No. 115/2003. Results showed fluctuating pH and DO values in the midstream, decreasing BOD5, and irregular COD pattern with notable increase in the midstream and downstream. The BOD5/COD ratio showed a pattern of dominance of non-biodegradable organic matter in the middle and downstream of the river. All sampling points were classified as Slightly Contaminated with a Pollution Index ranging from 1.29 to 3.85. These findings indicate that industrial activities contribute significantly to the decline in the Motui river water quality. The results of this study recommend the addition of water quality parameters, and other approaches such as heavy metal pollution analysis to enrich information about the level of degradation of the Motui River and its surroundings.
