Abstract

Remazol red is a color substance that can cause environmental pollution, so adsorption methods areused to reduce the concentration of remazol red color substances before being dumped into the water with silica aerogel-activated carbon nanocomposite adsorbent. Silica aerogel-activated carbon nanocompoposite are synthesized using sol-gel methods and drying at ambient pressure with the base material of bagasse ash. The success of synthesis can be reviewed from the results of FT-IR characterization, which then synthesis results are applied to red remazol adsorption by varying pH, contact time, temperature, and concentration, so that its adsorption capacity can be known. Adsorption capacity of remazol red by silica aerogel-activated carbon nanocompoposite was obtained at optimum contact time of 80 minutes, adsorbent mass of 0.01 grams and remazol red concentration of 40 mg/L at pH 2 is 3.9375 mg/g. Adsorption capacity decreases as the pH and temperature increase and increases as the concentration of remazol red. Adsorption of remazol red using silica aerogel-activated carbon nanocompoposite follows the two-order kinetic model and Freundlich isoterm. Adsorption thermodynamics obtained ∆G° = -454,478 J/mol (45°C), ∆H° = -13659,902 J/mol, and ∆S° = -40,662 J/Kmol which indicates that the adsorption process takes place spontaneously, exothermicly.
