Abstract

Cervical cancer remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality among women worldwide. Although Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) is an effective and affordable method for early detection, its utilization remains low in many regions of Indonesia, including Muaro Jambi Regency. This study aimed to assess factors associated with VIA screening behavior among women aged 30–50 years in the working area of Sekernan Ilir Public Health Center, Muaro Jambi Regency. This cross-sectional study included women aged 30-50 years selected through proportional random sampling; of the minimum calculated sample of 154 respondents, 149 (96.8%) completed the questionnaire. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire assessing age, parity, knowledge, attitude, access to information, husband support, and health cadre support, and analyzed using Chi-square tests and multiple logistic regression (α=0.05). Overall, 86.6% of respondents had never undergone VIA screening. In the bivariate analysis, knowledge (OR=3.04; 95% CI: 1.09-8.41) and health cadre support (OR=4.89; 95% CI: 1.10-22.45) were significantly associated with VIA screening behavior. After adjustment, age was the only variable independently associated with VIA screening behavior (AOR=10.03; 95% CI: 1.18-85.22; p=0.035). The overall model was statistically significant (Omnibus test, p=0.005; Nagelkerke R²=0.213); however, the small number of women who had undergone VIA screening resulted in limited precision of the adjusted estimates. Targeted health education, community health cadre empowerment, and community-based outreach may help improve VIA screening uptake, although their effectiveness should be evaluated in future studies.
