Generative AI (GenAI) is increasingly used by students to learn programming, yet it remains unclear how the intensity of its use relates to self-regulated learning (SRL). This study examined the relationship between GenAI usage intensity and SRL in programming among informatics engineering students. A cross-sectional correlational survey was conducted using convenience sampling (n = 86). Usage intensity was measured by frequency and duration of use over the previous 30 days and expressed as estimated hours per week. SRL was measured with a 16-item adapted version of the Self-Regulation of Learning Instrument for Undergraduates, grounded in Zimmerman's cyclical model. Data were analyzed using Spearman's correlation. Usage intensity showed a weak positive correlation with SRL (ρ = 0.272, p = 0.011). However, the association was not robust: it was not significant after excluding 22 respondents with identical answers to all items (ρ = 0.116, p = 0.363) or after controlling for semester and course status (partial ρ = 0.191, p = 0.081). In exploratory analyses, duration of use, but not frequency, remained associated with SRL. The findings are correlational and should be interpreted cautiously.
