Abstract

Healthcare developments require nurses to possess competencies that meet patients’ complex needs. The transformation of RS Radjiman Wediodiningrat Lawang towards broader healthcare services highlights the importance of continuous clinical competency development. This community service activity aimed to to evaluate nurses’ knowledge and describe their clinical skills following a refresher workshop on fluid management and clinical nursing skills. The activity was conducted from September 7-11, 2026, at RS Radjiman Wediodiningrat Lawang, involving 318 nurses. blended learning approach integrated synchronous and asynchronous learning, followed by clinical skills practice across four stations: intravenous infusion, nasogastric tube (NGT) insertion, urinary catheterisation, and fluid balance monitoring. Knowledge was evaluated using a pre-test and post-test, while clinical skills were assessed after practice using procedural checklists at three skills stations and a clinical case simulation worksheet at the fluid balance monitoring station. The mean overall knowledge score was 87.26 at pre-test and 95.66 at post-test. Individual scores increased for 37.74% of participants, remained unchanged for 50.00%, and decreased for 12.26%. The mean clinical skills score following the workshop was 94.13, with the highest mean score observed at the intravenous infusion station (98.02) and the lowest at the fluid balance monitoring station (88.88). The outputs included reusable learning materials and assessment instruments, as well as training for eight internal facilitators to support nurses’ competency development. These outputs can serve as a basis for ongoing professional development, particularly through structured case simulations focusing on fluid balance monitoring.
