Dysmenorrhea refers to pain experienced during menstruation, a condition frequently encountered by adolescent girls. Menstrual pain can interfere with daily activities, academic concentration, and the overall quality of life for adolescents. One non-pharmacological approach that can be employed to help alleviate dysmenorrhea-related pain is hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy is a technique that utilizes guided relaxation and positive suggestions to assist in managing the perception of pain, as well as reducing tension and anxiety. This study aimed to determine the effect of hypnotherapy on reducing the intensity of dysmenorrhea pain among adolescent girls at the Pro Skill Health Vocational School (SMK Kesehatan Pro Skill) in Pekanbaru. The study employed a quasi-experimental design, specifically a one-group pretest-posttest approach. Participants were selected using non-probability sampling, specifically the consecutive sampling method. The study population consisted of all female students who experience menstruation, with a sample of 35 respondents who met the inclusion criteria: experiencing primary dysmenorrhea, not currently using pharmacological medication to manage the condition, and being between 15 and 17 years of age. Data analysis included both univariate and bivariate methods, with the Wilcoxon signed-rank test (an alternative to the Wilcoxon test) used for the bivariate analysis. The Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) was utilized as the measurement instrument. The adolescent girls received hypnotherapy sessions lasting 45 minutes for two consecutive days. Prior to the intervention, the participants' dysmenorrhea pain levels ranged from a minimum of 2 to a maximum of 6 on the scale; following the hypnotherapy, the levels ranged from a minimum of 0 to a maximum of 4. The results yielded a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05). Hypnotherapy has the potential to serve as an alternative complementary intervention to assist adolescent girls in managing dysmenorrhea pain. These findings may serve as a consideration for the development of midwifery services that focus on the holistic management of menstrual pain.
