Transmitting digital images over public networks makes them vulnerable to data manipulation. While the AES algorithm offers high encryption speeds, it is weak regarding symmetric key distribution; conversely, RSA is robust for key exchange but computationally too heavy for large-capacity image data. Therefore, this study proposes a hybrid cryptographic algorithm that integrates the scrambling speed of AES in Cipher Block Chaining (CBC) mode with the secure asymmetric key distribution of RSA. The system underwent comprehensive bidirectional evaluation (encryption and decryption) using Mean Square Error (MSE), Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR), Information Entropy, Histogram Analysis, Spatial Pixel Correlation, and Computational Time metrics on the standard USC-SIPI dataset. Test results demonstrate extreme visual degradation during the encryption phase, characterized by an MSE of 10,133 and a PSNR reduced to 8.07 dB. The CBC mode successfully eliminated statistical patterns, validated by an entropy value of 7.9998, a uniform distribution in the encrypted image histogram, and spatial pixel correlation values plummeting to near zero. During the decryption phase, the algorithm achieved 100% lossless image recovery (MSE of 0, PSNR of 100 dB, and preserved entropy). The proposed AES-RSA hybrid system proves to be robust against statistical analysis while ensuring precision in image recovery.
