<![CDATA[This article aimed to explain the role of scavengers as a sustainable landfill management strategy. Strategies using high technology or technical innovation faced many obstacles because of the limited cost and mastery of technology in the landfill. The consequences of the ancient paradigm and undeveloped model of waste management directed to an unsustainable situation and keep growing the opening of the landfill as a disposal site. Therefore we need an effective effort to reduce the waste that goes to landfill so it will not only be a place for waste bury but also being waste treatment facility in order to transform waste to be a valuable resource. Landfill and scavengers are things that can not be separated. When people reject the presence of landfill, a scavenger is highly dependent on the presence of waste that goes to landfill. Scavengers as one of the potential waste management strategies need to be considered. Scavengers and garbage are two things that have a close connection. Garbage always produced daily by humans and scavengers pick up the waste that can be sold. Some research related scavengers role in reducing waste will be presented. From the results of literature review and the results of the research, it can be concluded that regard scavengers as a community are important for the environment and developing landfill management strategy.]]>
