Tujuanpenelitian adalah untuk mengetahui tungas dan fungsi Lembaga Wali Nanggroe berdasarkan dengan Qanun Aceh Nomor Nomor 9 Tahun 2013 danuntuk menjelaskan mengapa Wali Nanggroe yang seharusnya memiliki sikap independen malah ikut serta sebagai tim pemenagan calon Gubernur Aceh yang diusung oleh partai Aceh pada pemilu 2017.Adapunmetodepenelitianmenggunakanpendekatanpenelitiankualitatif yang berlandaskandeskriptif, penelitiankualitatifdeskriptifmerupakan suatu metode dalam meneliti status sekelompok manusia, suatu objek, suatu kondisi, suatu sistem pemikiran ataupun suatu kelas peristiwa pada masa sekarang, dengan mengunakan metode ini maka peneliti dapat mendeskripsi, mengambarkan atau lukiskansecara sustematis, factual dan akurat. HasilpenelitianmenunjukanbahwaLembagaWaliNanggroemerupakansebuahlembagaadat Aceh yang dibutuhkanolehmasyarakat Aceh, namunindependensi WaliNanggroe di ragukan, hal tersebutkarenakanWali Nanggroeselalumenunjukansikap yang mendukungpihaktertentusehinggaindependensiWali Nanggroe di pertanyakanolehmasyarakat. WaliNanggroe di bawahpimpinan Malik Mahmud di anggaptidakmemilikinilaiindependensi sehingga dengan itu wali Nanggroe bukan sebagai pemesaturakyat Aceh.Wali Nanggroediharapkan bersikap independensi dalam menjalankan tungasdan tangung jawab lembaga yang telah beliau pimpin. The journey of Wali Nanggroe Institution in the governmental arena continues to gain pros and cons from either the academics or the people of Aceh. The Qanun was then revised to Qanun of Aceh Number 9 of 2013.In implementing his task, Wali Nanggroe should show the attitude of independence that puts forward the value of neutrality instead misused by being partial to a particular group that makes his ability to unite the people of Aceh is questioned.The purpose of this research was to determine the duties and functions of Wali Nanggroe in accordance with Qanun of Aceh Number 9 of 2013 and to find out the reason why the Wali Nanggroe, who should have been independent, participated as a campaign team of Aceh Governor candidate from Aceh Party in General Election of 2017.The research employed qualitative approach based with descriptive design. Descriptive qualitative research is a method that try to find out the status of a group of people, an object, a condition, a system of thought or a class of events in the present. By using this method, the researcher can describe an issue systematically, factually and accurately. The result of the research showed that Wali Nanggroe Institution is an Acehnese adat institute needed by Acehnese people, but the independence of Wali Nanggroe was in doubt. It was because the Wali Nanggroe always showed theattitude that supported acertain party so that people questioned his independence. Wali Nanggroe under the leadership of Malik Mahmud is considered to have no independent value so that the Wali Nanggroe gave the impression that he did not act as a unifier of the Acehnese people. Wali Nanggroe is expected be independent in carrying out the responsibility of the institution he leads. The independence of Malik Mahmud is the most expected by the people of Aceh so that Wali Nanggroe becomes a unifier of society both adat and politics.
