KOMPAS TV's live interview with the DKI Jakarta's Governor Basuki TjahajaPurnama on "Kompas Petang" had provoked many reactions from the people.The use of repulsive, offensive, harsh, ill-mannered, and invective words agitatedthe society for it was harmful and the negative impact was ravaging to the childrenand juveniles. And above all, it was the governor himself, who was supposedlysetting good examples to the society, speaking such a scourging language. Thiswriting aims to describe the politeness principles of pragmatics violated by thegovernor in the interview using descriptive and qualitative method. The resultshows that the governor had violated the pragmatic principles of politeness andthe maxims within, namely tact maxim, generosity maxim, approbation maxim,modesty maxim, agreement maxim, and sympathy maxim.
