Abstract

ABSTRACT This skripsi is entitled “SLANG DALAM LAGU-LAGU CHRIS BROWN”. The aims of this research are to analyze, identify and classify the words that use slang words of Chris Brown’s songs. The purpose of this research is to analyze the types of slang by using song lyrics of Chris Brown’s songs.  The research uses descriptive method. The theory of Elissa Matiello (2008) and Leech theory (1998) are used in this research. The data were collected by listening to 10 songs by Chris Brown and reading the lyrics of the songs. The result of this research shows that there are four forms of slang in Chris Brown’s songs namely, blending, clipping, copy reduplicatives, variation. The results of this research also shows that there are four meanings of slang in Chris Brown’s songs namely, conceptual meaning with 63 data, connotative meaning with 2 data, thematic meaning with 2 data, social meaning with 2  data. ______________________________________________ Key words: Slang,Meaning, Chris Brown’s songs, Sociolinguistics.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The research is entitled “Code Switching on Indonesian Tv Talk Show  Hitam Putih. The objective of this research is to identify, classify, and analyze the types and factor of code switching on this program. The data were elicited from five conversations between host and the guest star on Hitam Putih which were taken from youtube.  In analyzing the data, the writer uses the theory of Poplack (1980) to analyze the types of code switching and Fishman’s theory (1976) to find out the factor of code switching. Descriptive method is used in this research The result shows that the types of code switching found on this program are;Tag switching, Intrasentential switching,Intersentential switching and the factors that caused this code switching are; speaker, listener or opponent, the presence of a third person, change of subject. This research is expected to give a contribution in the study of sociolinguistics especially on the subject of code switching for the development of sociolinguistics at the Faculty of Humanities, Sam Ratulangi University and to help the readers or students to learn sociolinguistics,  especially to add their knowledge about code switching.  Keywords : Code Switching , Talk Show, Hitam Putih, Descriptive Analysis

Abstract

ABSTRACT  The title of this research is “ Salam dan Ungkapan Perpisahan dalam Bahasa Inggris dan Bahasa Korea : Contrastive analysis”. The aims of this study are to identify, describe the forms and pattern of greetings and leave-takings in English and Korea Language. This research uses a descriptive method, and Wardaugh and Fishman’s theories. The data in English were collected from books sociolinguistic, sourch internet, and the film The Best of Me. While the data in Korea languge were collected from the drama The Heirs. The result of this research shows that greetings and leave takings in English and  Korean language  have two forms those are formal and informal. In addition, the writer finds that there three patterns in English and Korean language on greetings. Those patterns are the mutual formal greetings, the mutual informal greetings and the Non mutual greetings. The patterns of English leave-takings are the same as their greetings. On the other hand, Korean language has only two patterns of non mutual leave-takings formal and informal. Greetings and leave-takings in English and South Korean language have differences. For instance, greetings and leave-takings in English are various. Abstract

ABSTRACT  This skripsi is the title of ?Alih Kode dalam Bahasa Inggris pada Program TV Indonesia Nez Academy?. Is analyzed from the sociolinguistics view.  The aims of this research are to identify, classify, and describe the code switching used by its host, Boy William, and its judge leader, Agnes Monica in the program Nez Academy (Talent show program on NET. TV channel). The research uses descriptive method, by using the theory of Romaine (1995:122) and Hoffman (1992). The data were collected from utterances containing code switching in English by Agnes Monica and Boy William, in 16 episodes. The total number of code switching found are 239 by Agnes Monica and Boy William in Indonesia TV program Nez Academy. The results of this research show that there are three types of code swiching they are: Inter-sentensial switching, Intra-sentensial switching and Tag switching. The results of this research also show that there are seven reasons which influence the use of code switching in Indonesia TV program Nez Academy, namely talking about a particular topic with, showing empathy about something, interjection (inserting sentence fillers or sentence connector), repetition used for clarification, repetition used for clarification and Expressing group identity. However, quoting somebody else was not found in the data.   Keywords: Code switching, Indonesian TV program NEZ Academy, Sociolinguistics.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is entitled “ Ironi dalam Novel The Pearl karya John Steinbeck.” In this research, the writer focuses on irony in plot and characters in the novel. This novel is one of John Steinbeck’s works and it is famous in Amerika, 1947. In this research, the writer uses instrinsic approach to understand about plot and characters in the novel. Parts of research explained the types of irony, which are Verbal Irony, Dramatic Irony, and Situational Irony. The purpose of this research is to identify, analyze, and describe the types of irony in the novel. This research is also done because there are elements of real life that also occur in this novel. The results of this study contain three types of irony, which are Verbal Irony, Dramatic Irony, and Situational Irony. Verbal Irony is a conversation between Kino and the pearl buyer, Dramatic Irony describes the events that made Coyotito die, and Situasional Irony illustrates a Kino delusion that wants a better life than ever before.  Keywords : Irony, The Pearl, John Steinbeck, Characters, Plot, Intrinsic approach

Abstract

ABSTRAKTION In dieser Untersuchung wird die Natur des Gedichtes in der deutschen Volksliedern nämlich, 1)Weißt du wieviel Sternlein stehen, 2)Wir lagen vor Madagaskar, 3)Ich bete an die Macht der Liebe, 4)Kein schöner Land in dieser Zeit,  5)Geh aus mein Herz und suche Freud, 6)Ob’s sturmt oder schneit? beschreiben. Die Daten werden von internet Seiten “Volksliederarchiv.de” genommen. Als theoretische Grundlage verwendet die Schreiberin die Meinung von Gutzen(1979), I.A Richard im Waluyo (1987), und Waluyo(2002). Um die Volksliedern zu identifizieren, zu klasifizieren, zu analysieren und zu beschreiben, werden die deskriptive Methode von Djajasudarma(2010), und die strukturalische Annährung,vor allem die innere Strukturanalyse benutzt. Innere Struktur in der deutschen Volksliedern besteht aus dem Thema, Ton, Gefühl und der Botschaft.  Die Schlüßfolgerung der Untersuchung zeigen, daß vier Volkslieder die gleiche Thema haben, nämlich: der Gottheit. Dann das Lied “Wir lagen vor Madagaskar”, hat das Lieben zwischen Männern und Frauen Thema. Das Lied “Ob’s sturmt oder schneit?” hat Thema, nämlich: Der Brüderlichkeit. Die nächste Schlüßfolgerung findet die Schreiberin, daß sechs Volksliedern den unterschiedlichen Ton, Gefühl, und Botschaft haben.  Stichwörter: Die Natur des Gedichtes, Volksliedern, Volksliederarchiv.de

Abstract

ABSTRACT  This research which is entitled ‘Slang Words on Instagram’ is an attempt to identify the types,kinds and forms also to analyze the meanings of slang words on instagram. The theories used in this research are by Patridge and Bloomfield’s theories and the data will be taken from instagram. This research applies a descriptive method. Theoretically, this research will give a contribution to linguistic study especially on sociolinguistic field more specifically on slangs found in instagram and also provide with rich information about slang. Practically, this study can help students and readers in understanding the types, forms and meanings of slang words in instagram. The result shows that types and form of slang found in instagram are abbreviation, shortened forms, facetious misprounanciation, public house slang, society slang and the meanings found in instgaram used online dictionary. Abstract

ABSTRACT  This research entitled “Rights and Freedom Oppression in Maya Angelou’s I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” is written to fulfill the requirement of finishing Bachelor’s Degree in English Department Faculty of Humanities Sam Ratulangi University. It focuses on explaining the Rights and Freedom Oppression in the reflection of the main character as a woman. It also aims at identifying and analyzing the effects of Rights and Freedom Oppression to Black women in general.  In this research, the writer used the theory of rights by W.J. Sidis (1940), freedom by Henry W. Nevinson (1921), and oppression by Tony Booth (2013). The methodology used in this research is divided into three steps: preparation, data colletction, and data analysis. In preparation, the writer read the whole novel and writings relating to the topic. In data collection, the writer found out the ideas and materials through the dialogues, actions, characters, and narrations in the novel autobiography as the supporting elements. In data analysis, the writer used the intrinsic approach to look at the dialogues, actions, characters, and narrations. Extrinsic approach was also employed through the comparison of the depiction of Americans social condition and Black people’s life to analyse the correlation of the data.  The results of this research show that the Black people, especially the women, experienced complex oppressions in relation to their rights and freedom as portrayed in Maya Angelou’s I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.
