Abstract

ABSTRACT This research entitled “Conjunction in the Album 21 By Adele Adkins” is an attempt to found conjunction in terms of form, function and meaning in the songs. The purpose of this research is to describe, identify, and analyze the forms, functions and meaning of conjunctions in the songs. The theories used in this research are Aarts and Aarts (1982:44), John and Yates (1982:450), and Marcella Frank (1972:206). The investigation has been done through the library and field research. The data about conjunction in the songs are being collected from album 21 by Adele Adkins. The results shows that, there are nine simple conjunctions in the album 21 and those are and, if, that, but, or, until, for, as, why, yet, so and there are no findings for complex conjunction. In terms of function, there are coordinators and subordinators conjunction in the songs. Coordinators conjunction are and, but, or, yet, so and subordinators conjunction are that, as, for, until, if, why. In terms of the meaning of conjunction, the writer found 9 meanings from conjunction in the album 21 by Adele Adkins, there are conjunctions that shows the addition are and and yet, conjunction that shows the difference is but, conjunctions that shows cause and purpose are as and why, conjunction that cause requirement is if, conjunction indicates choices is or, conjunction that shows purpose is that, conjunction that show cause and result is for, conjunction that shows time is until and conjunction that shows the meaning of result is so.     Keywords : Conjunction, Album Adele 21, form, function, meaning

Abstract

ABSTRACT This article entitled “Kreasi Kata dalam Bahasa Inggris”. Word creation is a process to produce new words. In communication, people use word to express their feelings and to deliver their ideas. In other words, they need words to communicate with others verbally or non-verbally. Communication is a medium to build a relation among people. People use language to do communication. The data which are sentences containing these words have been selected from articles, dictionaries, newspapers, magazines and other linguistic textbooks which discuss about clipping, blending, back formation, acronyming and coinage. The objective of this research is to identify, analyze and describe the words created through clipping, blending, back formation, acronyming, and coinage in English language. Speakers of English sometimes do not know or realize that some words in the vocabulary are originally formed by clipping, blending, back formation, acronyming and coinage. This study would like to suggest to other researchers to study about the other processes of forming words like conversion, derivation, onomatopoeia, proper names and also other processes. Abstract

ABSTRACT This article entitles “Code Switching on Twitter”. The aim of this research are to identify and analyze the code switching appeared in the twitter and  explain the reason for the phenomena mentioned above. The data has been collected from Twitter edition January – March 2013, the theory that is used in this research is Dell Hymes theory using descriptive method. The results of this research shows that the code switching due to speakers, partner speech, main point, functions and objectives. According to the function there are two forms in code switching on twitter, they are phrase and sentence. Code switching can occur due to situation deemed inappropriate or irrelevant contextual and situational in the use of two or more language. Abstract

ABSTRACT This article, entitled ?Error Analysis of the use of Coordinating Conjunction By Grade XI Students at SMA N 3 Manado?, is an attempt to analyze and classify errors in the use of coordinating conjunction. It was carried out at SMA N 3 Manado. The method used in this research is descriptive. Ellis?s (1998) theory is used to explain the types of errors. This theory is intended to find out the errors made by the students. The data of the research were collected using a  4-part-test form. Part 1 is multiple choice, part 2 is filling  in the blank, part 3 is determining true or false sentences, and part 4 is unscrambling sentences into correct. The results of this research show that the students? score of errors in the use of coordinating conjunction and is higher than but, or, and for. The use of coordinating conjunction for has the lower percentage. In terms of the types of errors made by students the higher percentage is misinformation, then misordering and the lower percentage is omission. Based on the results, it can be concluded that students are still confused on how to put the right coordinating conjunction on the sentence. So, they made these kinds of errors such as omission, misinformation and misordering. Keyword : Error analysis, coordinating conjunction,high school students, omission, misinformation, misordering.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research entitled “Konjungsi Subordinatif dalam Novel Slaughter House Five Karya Kurt Vonnegut, Jr“ is written to fulfill the requirement of finishing S1 degree in English Department Faculty of Letter Sam Ratulangi University. The aims of the research to classify, to describe and to analyze subordinative conjunction  in terms of its classification and meaning. In analyzing the data the writer uses descriptive method and by using the concept of  Frank about classification and  meaning. The results of this research show that the classification of subordinative conjunction that are used by Vonnegut, Jr. in the novel are subordinative conjunction single-word and subordinative conjunction two-word,  meanings are subordinative conjunction can state  time, contrast, cause, manner, condition, purpose, exception, and concessive. The meaning  that used mostly by the author  is subordinative conjunction states time. __________________ Keywords: Subordinative Conjunction, Slaughter House Five
