Abstract

ABSTRACT  The  research  which  entitled  “Verbs  in  English  and Tonsawang  Language:   A Contrastive Analysis” aims at identifying and analyzing the kinds of verbs in these two languages and finding out the differences between both languages. The English data have been collected from several books, internet, and some theory that related to this research, whereas the data of Tonsawang language have been collected by interviewing from some informants who know well about this language by using contrastive analysis approach. The data are then analyzed according to theory of Frank's (1972), there are two kinds of verbs, Classified by complement of verb: Predicating or linking verbs, transitive and intransitive verbs and reflexive verbs. Classified by form of verb: Auxiliary or lexical verbs, finite or non-finite verbs. To contrastive these two languages, the writer uses Lado (1957 ) concept. He said contrastive analysis is by contacting the language and the first language can be learned to propose and illustrate patterns that will lead to difficulties and ease of learning the language. The difference found in the English and Tonsawang verbs is found in the existing verb types. In English, found all types of verbs are classified by Frank (1972), whereas in Tonsawang language does not have any kind of linking verbs and non-finitive verbs.  Theoretically, this research gives contribution toward the knowledge development in contrastive analysis especially verbs in English and Tonsawang language. Abstract

ABSTRACT  This research is entitled “Taboo Words in the film Bad Boys II by Michael Bay A Sociolinguistic Analysis”. The objectives of this research are identify, classify, and analyze the types of taboo words.  This research uses a descriptive method. There are were three steps to finish this research, the first step is preparation, the data taboo words in the film Bad Boys II were taken from internet and understanding the movie script, also read some books like journal and skripsi. The second step the writer watches Bad Boys II movie, printed script of the movie, then the writer reads the script and find out the conversations that contain taboo words. The third step is the data were analyzed using theory of Wardhaugh uses seven types of taboo words (1986). The results of this research show that there are 103 taboo words found in Bad Boys II. According to theory of Wardhaugh, there are seven types of taboo words, those are taboo words related to mother in law, animal, sex, death, excretion, bodily function, and religion. Abstract

ABSTRACTS  This research entitled “The Associative Meaning in Book of Psalm”. The problems of this research focus on the five types of Associative Meaning and their descriptions in the Book of  Psalm. The aims of the research are to identify, classify, and to analyze the verses in the Book of Psalms using Semantics approach.  This research uses descriptive method supported by Leech’s theory. In collecting data, the writer focused on reading the words, phrases, or sentences in every verse from chapter 1-50. The result of this research showed that there are  connotative meaning, social meaning, affective meaning, reflective meaning, and collocative meaning in the Book of Psalm.  Keywords: Associative Meaning, Book of Psalm, Descriptive Analysis

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study is attempt to describe, clasify and analyze modal verb in The film script Ted by Seth Macfarlane , Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild. The auxiliary verb modals are auxiliary words that serve as "helping verbs" to get more meaning. The effect of tense of the modals is different from verb.  The writer uses descriptive method. The data of the modals are collected from the sentences found in the script. The theory of Robert is used in this research . They are pure modals, special modals, and semi modals. Pure modals are can, could, will, would, shall, should, may, might and must. Special modals which used are be going to, have to, had better, had rather, be to, be able to, and ought to. Semi modals which used are dare and need. The writer focus to analyze about pure modals. The meaning of modals auxiliaries in The film script Ted by Seth Macfarlane , Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild. The auxiliary verb modals are: Can means ability, permission, and suggestion. Could means ability, possibility, permission, suggestion, and request. May means request and possibility. Might means possibility and permission. Will means willingness, intention, and request. Would means willingness, certainty, intention , and offering. Shall means request. Should means obligation, possibility, necessity. Abstract

ABSTRAKTION Diese Untersuchung hat den Titel “Der  Imperativsatz im Deutschen und Manadonesich: eine kontrastive Analyse”. Die Probleme dieser Untersuchung sind: Welche Bildung des Imperativsatzes im Deutschen und Manadonesisch gibt und was  der Unterschied und die Gleichheit zwischen Imperativsatz im Deutschen und Manadonesisch ist. Zur Analyse des Imperativsatzes im Deutschen und Manadonesisch benutzt die Schreiberin die Theorien von Dreyer, Hilke und Schmitt, Richard, Drosdowsky und Moeliono.  Das Ziel dieser Untersuchung ist die Bildung des  Imperativsatzes im Deutschen und Manadonesisch zu finden, zu analysieren und zu beschreiben. Die Daten werden von einigen Bϋchern, und Interviews gesammelt. Um das Ziel der Untersuchung zu erreichen, benutzt die Schreiberin die kontrastive Methode. Das Ergebnis der Untersuchung zeigt, daβ das Deutsch und Manadonesisch den Unterschied und Gleichheit in der Bildung des Imperativsatzes haben.  Stichwörter: Imperativsatz, Deutsch, Manadonesisch, kontrastive Analyse.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Language has an important function in society’s life. This research design entitled “Slang in the Film Central Intelligence by Rawson Marshall Thurber” is an attempt to identify the slangs found in the Film Central Intelligence, analyze and describe their forms and meanings. The writer also uses some theories that related to slang language and the definition of slang. The theory used in this research is by Bloomfield, Patridge, and Guth. Theoretically, the writer hopes this research can give contribution to linguistic especially on sociolinguistics field more specially on slang. The writer uses inductive method to analysis the data in this research. From the analysis, the writer selects six types of slang, they are: Shortened, Interjection, Society slang, Public house slang, Figurative Expression, and Nick Name. From this research, the result show that there are 5 slangs in Shortened form, 5 slangs in Interjection form, 30 slangs in Society slang, 5 slangs in Public house slang, 2 slangs in Figurative Expression, and 4 slangs in Nick Name.   Keywords: Slang,  film Central Intelligence, Bloomfield , Patridge, Guth
