Abstract

ABSTRACTSLanguage is one of the characteristics of human beings that differentiate them from other creatures. In this case, human beings use language as a tool of communication. In uttering something, people are not only sounding sentence, but also transferring it into behavior. This is called speech acts illocutionary act is one of the aspects of it. This study focuses on one of the categories of illocutionary act, conflictive act that is used in the film The Kingdom of Heaven by William Monahan.In collecting data, the writer elicits them through the conversation among the characters in the film. To analyze them, the writer used descriptive analysis based on Leech’s theory. Leech divided conflictive act into four kind which is threatening, reprimanding, accusing, and cursing.  It is excpected that the study will help student and readers in learing pragmatics especially the conflictive act in the film. It is suggested for researchers to use another theory of illocutionary acts in other objects such as native language, novel, short story and many others.__________Keywords : speech act; illocutionary act; conflictive act

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research entitled ‘Voice in English and Mongondow Language:(A contrastive analysis)”. The aims of this research are identify, to clasify, to analyze and also to contrast, the voice in English and Mongondow Language.This research used a descriptive method. The English data were collected from books and website, while Mongondow languge data were collected from several native speakers who live in Tutuyan, Bolaang Mongondow distirct. The writter used Aarts & Aarts’s theory (1982) in analyzing the data and Lado’s theory (1957) in contrasting both languages to find out their differences.The data in English form consist of modal auxiliary verb, primary auxiliary verb, indirect object, direct object and to be. In Mongondow language consist of indirect and direct object.The result of this research shows that English and Mongondow language have differences in form of voice. Form of active and passive voice in English consist of to be, modal auxiliary verb, primary auxiliary verb, direct object and indirect object. While active and passive voice in Mongondow language only has direct and indirect object. There are 66 active and 66 passive voice in English.Then there are 33 active and passive voice in Mongondow    -------------------------------Keywords : Voice, English, Mongondow

Abstract

ABSTRACT             This research entitled “Stratifikasi Sosial dalam FilmDivergent produksi Summit Entertainment”. Present as a reqruitment for getting a degree S.S            The objectives of this research are to identify, describe, and analyze, social stratification in the film Divergent. The writer uses the theory of Lenski and Lenski and also Parsons to analyze the data and to find out the stratification. This research has been done by using descriptive method.            The methodology conducted consist of 3 phases those are Preparation, Data Collection, and Data Analysis. The data were taken from the Film Divergentthrough intrinsic elements such as character, action, and expression.The research findings show that “Social Stratification”is admitted alive by Neil Burger through “Film Divergent”. It depicted in the interaction among character, expression, and action in the film.Keyword: Divergent, social stratification, character, expression, action, faction.

Abstract

Abstraktion      Diese Untersuchung behandelt sich über “Form und Bedeutung der Konjunktionen in deutschen Evangelium von Johannes”. Die Probleme in dieser Untersuchung sind welche Formen der Konjunktionen es in deutschen Evangelium von Johannes gibt und was die Bedeutung der Konjunktion in deutschen Evangelium von Johannes ist. Diese Untersuchung  hat die Ziele, um die Formen und die Bedeutung der Konjunktionen in deutschen Evangelium von Johannes zu identifizieren, zu klassifizieren, zu analysieren, und zu berschreiben. Die Daten wurden von deutschen Evangelium von Johannes bekommen. Als die theoretische Grundlage verwendet der Schreiber die Meinungen von Brockhaus, Dreyer und Schmitt. Der Schreiber benutzt eine deskriptive Methode von Djajasudarma, um die Daten zu analysieren.  Formen der Konjunktionen in deutschen Evangelium von Johannes sind und, aber, denn, oder, sondern, damit, weil, dass, als, wenn, dann, troztdem, obwohl, nachdem, so dass, ebenso, weshalb, deshalb, während, solange, und so. Die Bedeutung der Konjunktionen in Evangelium von Johannes beziehen sich auf die kausale Bedeutung, die konsekutive Bedeutung, die konsesive Bedeutung, und die temporale Bedeutung. Stichwӧrter: Form, Bedeutung, Konjunktion, deutschen Evangelium von Johannes.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research  is entitled Complement in Novel One Touch of Topaz by Iris Johansen”The aims of this research are to identify and classify the types of complement, and to analyze the function and position of complement in One Touch of Topaz novel by Iris Johansen.In analyzing the data, the writer used the theory of Aarts and Aarts (1982) which divided complement into six types. Aarts and Aarts also describe each function of each complement. The writer analyze the position of complement by seeing the example of complement according to Aarts and Aarts.The method of this research is descriptive method. Descriptive data is a form word rather than a row of numbers. The result of this research found 1.446 sentences has complement which divided into direct object has 305 sentences, indirect object has 67 sentences, benefaktive object has 30 sentences, subject attribute has 332 sentences, object attribute has 23 sentences, and predicator complement has 689 sentences.The other result show that all types of complement found in the novel of One Touch of Topaz by Iris Johansen, each types of complement has one function and  has several position (Direct object has six positions, Indirect object has four position), Benefactive Object has four position, Subject Attribute has two positions, Object Attribute has three positions, and Predicator complement has three positions). ----------------------------------------------Keywords : sintax, complement, novel

Abstract

ABSTRACT                        This research is entitled ?Mood in novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen?? as the requirement to accomplish the Bachelor Degree in English Linguistic at Faculty of Hunanities, Sam Ratulangi University. This research aims to identify, classify, and analyze the types and the function of mood which found in Novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.                       The writer used theory from Aarts and Aarts (1982) which divided the mood into three parts, they are: Indicative mood, Subjunctive mood and Imperative mood. Frank (1972) divided the theory of function into three parts, they are; Imperative mood functional to declare command, request, and instruction; Subjunctive mood functional to declare uncertainty, wish, and encourage; Indicative mood functional to declare all situation without the imperative and subjunctive mood. Moreover, the method used in this research is descriptive method. The data of mood is taken from the sentences in novel Pride and Prejudice.            The result of this research shows 41 function. The kinds of mood which found are 41 data, they are 12 imperative moods to express commands or request. 9 subjunctive moods to signal unreality, wishes, conjecture or urgency and 21 indicative moods.------------------------------------Keywords: syntax, mood, novel

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research which is entitled ?Makna Eskatologi dalam Seventh Day Adventist Hymnal? is focused on sign and meaning that can be found in Seventh Day Adventist Hymnal. The aims of this research are to identify, classify and analyze the signifier, signified and the meaning of eschatology that can be found in lyrics on Seventh Day Adventist Hymnal. The writer uses theory of Saussure to identify and classifythe data. In analyzying the data, the writer used the theory of Pierce which states that An interpretant (or interpretant sign) is the sign's more or less clarified meaning or ramification, a kind of form or idea of the difference which the sign's being true or undeceptive would make. The source of lyrics songs was taken from the book of Seventh Day Adventist Hymnal. The method of this research is qualitative method. Qualitative data is a form of words rather than a row of numbers. The results of this research show that based on the theory of Saussure there is signifier and signified in lyrics songs are on SDA Hymnal and based on the theory of Pierce there are 7 clauses,17 phrases, 16 sentences and 3 words that have eschatology meaning which consists of Jerusalem; my happy home, Marching to Zion, Sweet by and by, Jerusalem the Golden, Joy by and by, Shall we gather at the river, The homeland, I?m going home, There?ll be no sorrow there, Beautiful Zion, Together let us sweetly live, In the garden, How lovely is thy dwelling place, In a little while we?re going home, Over yonder, Burdens are lifted at Calvary, The Lord is coming, Gleams of the golden morning, You will see your Lord a-coming, Don?t you see my Jesus coming, Nearer my God to thee, O God; unseen, yet ever near, Christ is coming, Hail him the king of glory, Come; thou long expected Jesus, It may be at morn, There?ll be no dark valley, That glorious day is coming, Tis almost time for the Lord to come, Jesus is coming again, We have this hope, When Jesus comes in glory, We know not the hour, O brother; be faithful, The king shall come, Christ the Lord; all power possessing, The judgment has set, O solemn thought, Day of the judgment; day of wonders!, Once to every man and nation._________________Keywords: Eschatology Meaning, Seventh Day Adventist Hymnal, Semiotic Analysis

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research is entitled “Taboo Words in English and Talaud language: A Contrastive Analysis”. The objectives of this research are to identify and classify the types and meaning of taboo words and analyze the differences of taboo words in English and Talaud language. This research used a descriptive method. There are three steps to finish this research. The first step was preparation, such as reading several books related to topics, such as sociolinguistic books and other sources like thesis or papers, and also the source of the English. The second step is data collection, such as collecting the data of taboo words in the English through library studies and previous researches; while in Talaud language was taken from native speakers in Desa Riung, Talaud Island. The third step is the data was analyzed using theory of Wardhaugh (1986:230) to find out the types, to find out the meaning using Leech’s theory, and both language were contrasted to find out the differences using Lado’s theory. The results of this research show that taboo words found in Talaud language were classified into eight types, such as, sex, bodily function, animal, death, excretion, curse, devil, and address terms. They shows that the causes of using taboo words are to express the emotion, such as anger, happy, and surprises, to talk about sex, to joke, and to insult. Keywords: taboo words; English,Talaud language; contrastive analysis, sociolinguitics
