Abstract

ABSTRACT “Room” is a national best seller novel written by Emma Donoghue. It tells a story about a child, Jack ,and his mother, Joy, that were caged in a room by a man who kidnapped and raped Joy, long before Jack  born. The novel is told from Jack’s point of view. This research aims at identifying, analyzing and describing the depression in “Room”. And also the causes and effects of the depression which are described in this novel. The identification of the data are based on  the theory about Literature. The data are taken from the novel.  Furthermore, there will be an analyzis using the psychological perspective from the  theory of Wellek and Warren (1997). In analyzing the data, the writer uses intrinsic and extrinsic approaches. The writer collected data which were taken from the novel, by reading carefully and underline the things that depict important events in “Room”, as well as notes or summaries that can support the research. The process of data collection is done through the identification of the psychological aspects in the novel and the data ware analyzed to find out the causes of Jack’s and Joy’s depression. The result of this research shows that depression picture true Jack and Joy, they experienced some horrible event, where they have been lock up in a room, the      cause of the lock up made Jack anti-social and Joy hurts her child, and try to kill herself.   Key words: Literature, Novel, Room, Depression, Psychological Analysis.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study is an attempt to find out the forms and analyze the meaning of prepositions in the Album Stand Up and Scream by Asking Alexandria. The data were analyzed based on the theories of Quirk Randolph (1985) and Curme (1986). The method used in this research was descriptive method. The data of prepositions were taken from the lyrics in the Album Stand Up and Scream by Asking Alexandria. The result of this study shows that there are 5 forms of prepositions found in the 13 songs in the album based on the theory of Quirk (1985) simple preposition, compound preposition, complex preposition, marginal preposition, inflectional preposition. Based on the theory of Curme (1986), there are 13 meanings of preposition found in the Album Stand Up and Scream by Asking Alexandria. The meaning of preposition refer to place, time, purpose or target, source or origin, cause or reason, way, tool, inclusion, nature, ownership or possession, amount, size, conquest. Abstract

ABSTRACT In this research, the  purpose  is about to reach is.1) To verify the subtances postcolonialism on the novel “Matahari Terbit di Utara (sunrise up north) as resistant to colonialism. 2) To describe the different opinion between central and region. Research is a observation of literary sociology to postcolonialism and use descriptive method, that is describe or draw everything just the way it is. The data is taken or gathered, inventoryng and then being clasification and analysed. The resourche of this data consis of primary data. Meanwhile the secondary data that is from books of reference theory or literary knowledge and any other backup resourche. The result of this research explain as far the effect of legacy from colonialism within the civilized and resistance to colonialism in Indonesia especially on the novel “Matahari Terbit di Utara”. Implication of the writer or mixed up  the author of this novel  has been formed of the fiction characters or the domination argument and idea on the novel is when the author placed opposition side of the region to central who more dominant.   keyword : literary sociology, subtance of postcolonialism, novel Matahari Terbit di Utara (sunrise up north).

Abstract

ABSTRACT.   This study is an attempt to describe and analyze person deixis which is found in the film Maleficent. The aim of this research is to identify and classify the type, and the function of person deixis used in the film. The method used in this research is descriptive method. The data of deixis have been taken from the sentences in the film Maleficent and analyzed using Levinson’s concept. In English, there are 3 types of person deixis, those are: first person deixis, second person deixis and third person deixis. Deixis itself is a pointing term in language The result of this study shows that person deixis is classified into 3 type, those are: first person deixis: I, me, my, mine, us, our, we; second person deixis: you, your; and third person deixis: they, her, she, he him, it, its.     Keywords: Person deixis, Pragmatic Analysis, Film Maleficent

Abstract

ABSTRACT Metaphor is part of figurative languange that compares one thing to another. Metaphor helps speakers or writers to describe about two different things. Metaphor is not only found in a poem but also in a song.This study entitled “Methapor in The Song Lyrics By Johnny Cash (A Semantic Analysis)” is an attempt to identify kinds of metaphor and to analyze the meaning of metaphor in the song lyrics. The method used in this research is descriptive method. In collecting the data, the writer uses theory of Lakoff and Johnson (1980) about metaphor conseptual theory to identify kinds of metaphor. Then the writer analized the meaning to determine target and source based on theory of Lakoff and Johnson (1980). The results of this study show that there are 15 phrases containing structural metaphor, 12 phrases containing orientational metaphor and 17 phrases containing Ontological metaphor. The meaning of each lyrics are various. Every word is transfered from abstract to concrete meaning and each lyric refers to certain object of target and source.   Keywords: Metaphoric Meaning, Songs By Johnny Cash, Semantic Analysis

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study is an attempt to know the English language acquisition by children at TK Advent Rama in  Ratahan. The objective of this study is to identify and analyze the English language acquisition by children at TK Advent Rama in  Ratahan. A qualitative method was used with the support of simple statistical analysis answer research question, Tabors and Snow’s theory on telegraphic and formulaic speech and productive language was used in this research. The research took 17 students as samples and the data were taken through interviews. The outcome of the interviews shows that the students acquisition of English language vocabulary is in two stages (telegraphic/formulaic speech  and productive language) as follows : parts of body (41% telegraphic, 59% productive), transportation (65% telegraphic, 35% productive), color (47% telegraphic, 53% productive), classroom (41% telegraphic, 59% productive), job (47% telegraphic, 53% productive), nation (47% telegraphic, 53% productive), universe (82% telegraphic, 18%productive) , self introduction (59% telegraphic, 41% productive), memory verse 100% productive language, prayer before studying 100% productive language, prayer eat 100% productive language and prayer after studying/going home 100% productive language. This research, then, recommends the teacher at TK Advent Rama in  Ratahan to increase the students motivation in learning English and in practicing English more often. This research also suggests to conduct further research focusing on the students in preschool, kindergarten or elementary school to examine their English language acquisition.   Key words : English Language Acquisition, Children and Kindergarten (TK)

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study entitles “Kinesika Dalam Tarian Modern Breakdance (Final International Battle of The Year 2015): Sebuah Analisis Semiotik”. Kinesics is a sign that is produced by human’s body movements. Every sign of body movements produced by human has meaning and it’s used for nonverbal communication. This study is an attempt to identify, classify, and analyze the body movements or kinesics produced by b-boys in the video documentation of International Battle of The Year 2015 Final. The data are collected through the author’s explanation about the category of kinesics as a sign to communicate nonverbally. The writer uses the theory of Ray L. Birdwhistell to identify and classify the data. The writer uses the theory of Roland Barthes which states that connotation is a new meaning that gives user the sign in accordance with wishes, background of knowledge, or a new convention that exists in a society. The results of this research show that based on the theory of Birdwishell, there are three kind of kinesics on b-boys that appears during breakdance. Those are kinesics as facial expression, kinesics as gestures, and kinesics as postures. The meanings of kinesics that appears are the sign of orders, notices, asking, confidence, support, enthusiasm, waiting, calling, stops, compliment, preparation, self greatness, blow up, instructions, information, and breakdance is over. The writer hopes that this study will help the reader to understand about semiotics especially on kinesics as one of nonverbal signs and how it works in communication.   Keywords: Body movements, Kinesics, Semiotic Analysis, Breakdance, Final International Battle of The Year 2015

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is entitled Complements in the Book of Ezekiel (a syntactical analysis). It used the New International Version (NIV). This research has two statement of problems: (1) what kind of complements in the Book of Ezekiel? and (2) what are their position in the sentences in the Book of Ezekiel? The method used in this research is descriptive method, which is divided into three steps. First is preparation, the writer read the Book of Ezekiel and some books that related to this title. Second is data collection, the writer collect the data, identify and classify the complement. Third is data analysis, the writer determine the subject, predicate, the kinds and position of complement. This research used Forlini and friends’ (1987) theory. They said that complement is a word or group of words that completes the meaning of the predicate of a sentence and distribute it in five different kinds, they are Direct Object, Indirect Object, Objective Complement, Predicate Nominative, and Predicate Adjective. There are 48 chapters in the book of Ezekiel, but this research just selected 24 chapters from chapter 1-24. The 494 sentences in the 24 chapters have complements. The conclution of this research shows that: (1) all of the kind of complements are found. (2) The position of Direct Object are after predicate; after indirect object; before objective complement; with  predicate nominative; with predicate adjective; with indirect object and objective complement; and with indirect object and predicate nominative. The position of Indirect Object are between predicate and  direct object; with objective complement; and with predicate nominative. The position of Objective Complement are after direct object; and with indirect object. The position of Predicate Nominative are after the linking verb; with direct object; with indirect object; and with predicate adjective. The position of Predicate Adjective are after linking verb; with direct object; with indirect object; and with predicate nominative.   Keywords: complement, adjective complement, predicate nominative.
