Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research entitled “The Impact of Desire to the Characters in the Novella The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery” is written to fullfil the requirement of accomplishing bachelor’s degree in English Department Faculty of Humanities Sam Ratulangi university. The focus of this research is identifying and analyzing the desire and the impact of desire to the characters’ psychology.In this research, desire’s theory by Steven Reiss (2000) was used to analyze the desires that give impact to the characters. The methodology used in the research was divided into three steps: preparation, data collection, and data analysis. In preparation, the writer read the novella and other literatures related to the topic. In data collection, through the character’s dialogue, plot and action the writer found the desires and their impacts. In data analysis, the writer used the intrinsic approach and the extrinsic approach to find the impact of desire to the characters’ psychology by paying attention to the dialogues, plot and actions.The results of this research show that desire does impact the characters’ psychology to get what they want. There are sixteen basic desires proposed by Reiss (2000) but the writer only found ten desires in the novella which are power, curiosity, acceptance, order, saving, social contact, status, vengeance, romance, and tranquility.  Keywords: The Little Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupery, Desire, Intrinsic and Extrinsic Approaches

Abstract

ABSTRAKKarya ilmiah ini membahas mengenai perkembangan Desa Tateli Weru Kecamatan Mandolang Kabupaten Minahasa untuk kurun waktu tahun 1985 hingga 2017. Dalam penulisan ini menggunakan metode sejarah yang terdiri dari empat tahapan yaitu heuristic, kritik analisa, interpretasi dan historiografi. Selain itu penulis juga menggunakan ilmu sosial yang berhubungan dengan penulisan ini. Ilmu sosial sebagai alat bantu untuk menjawab apa yang menjadi masalah dalam suatu penulisan sejarah.Desa Tateli Weru merupakan desa pesisir pantai yang berdiri atas upaya dari sejumlah petani dan nelayan asal kepulauan Sangihe di utara pulau Sulawesi yang mencari penghidupan yang layak. Dalam perkembangannya desa ini turut memainkan peranan dalam pemerintahan, perekonomian dan pendidikan di kecamatan Mandolang karena terletak di jalan raya Trans Sulawesi.Kata kunci: sejarah, perkembangan, desa, Tateli Weru, Mandolang, Minahasa

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is entitled “Jenis Makna dari Lirik–Lirik Lagu Terlaris Oleh Boyband VIXX”. The aims of the research are to identify the types of meaning in the song lyrics, to classify the types of meaning and to analyze the meaning contained in the hit song lyrics by VIXX boy band.            This research used descriptive method. In collecting the data, the writer focused on identifying the words and phrases that contain the seven types of meaning based on the  theory of Leech (1981) that divides the meaning into seven types, namely; conceptual meaning, connotative meaning, affective meaning, reflected meaning, collocative meaning, social meaning and thematic meaning. The writer then identifies and analyzes the part which contains the seven types of meaning respectively.            The results of this research show that the hit song lyrics of VIXX boyband have only 6 types of meaning. They are 8 conceptual meanings, 13 connotative meanings, 5 affective meanings, 13 reflected meanings, 9 collocative meanings and 13 thematic meanings.      Keywords: Types of Meaning, Hit Song Lyrics of VIXX Boyband, Phrases, Sentences

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study aims at investigating a woman emancipation in a novel entitled Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë, an English novel which was written in Victorian period in nineteenth century. This research focuses on situation of the women in a society and the action of the women in reality. The writer used a feminism theory from Betty Friedan in The Feminine Mystique.The method employed in this research is descriptive method. The novel was analysed intrinsically through the female character, including the main character and extrinsically through the portrait of English women in Victorian era. The results of this research shows that the woman emancipation is reflected through the female characters in the novel such as Jane Eyre, Bertha Mason and Hellen Burn. They are identified as women who have capability in making solution for the problems in society. Therefore, Jane Eyre who represents the woman in the novel gets her rights and appears as an independent women.Keywords: Novel, Woman Emancipation, Feminism, Victorian Era, Jane Eyre.

ABSTRAKPenulisan ini mengambil topik tentang Sejarah Desa Tambala Kecamatan Tombariri Kabupaten Minahasa Tahun 1986-2016. Dalam penulisan ini menggunakan metode sejarah yang terdiri dari empat tahapan yaitu heuristik, kritik analisa, interpretasi, dan historiografi. Selain menggunakan metode sejarah, penulis juga menggunakan ilmu sosial yang berhubungan dengan penulisan ini. Ilmu sosial sebagai alat bantu untuk menjawab apa yang menjadi masalah dalam suatu penulisan sejarah.Karya ilmiah ini berbicara tentang berisi tentang sejarah desa Tambala dimulai dari tahun 1986-2012, dan seterusnya menjelaskan tentang asal mula penduduk membentuk suatu perkampungan samapai menjadi desa Tambala. Didalamnya juga menguraikan tentang keadaan pemerintahannya, pendidikan, agama, serta kehidupan sosial budaya masyarakat desa Tambala.Kata Kunci : Sejarah desa, tahun 1986-2012, kehidupan sosial budaya

Abstract

ABSTRCT             This skripsi is entitled “Language Style in  Song Lyrics of Linkin Park Album A Thousand Suns ( stylistics analysis)”. Language style is a way of expressing oneself through language. Language style  allows us to judge others through character and abilities of someone who uses the language.       The aim of this research is classify and analyze language style in lyrics of song Linkin Park album A Thousand Suns.The writer uses descriptive methode. This   research focuses on figure of comparison, figure of opposition, figure of connection, figure of repetition. The writer  identifies the data by reading  the lyrics script  after downloading from the internet, classifying and analyzing the data he uses the theory of  Halliday.            The result of this research shows that there are 8 language style in used the lyrics Linkin Park album A Thousand Suns from 9 songs is simile (4), metaphor (1), personification (8), antitesis (4), hiperbole (15), oksimoron (4), metonymy (4), repetition (7). So the conclusion that the use language style in lyrics of song Linkin Park   album A Thousand Suns is the most widely used is figure of opposition : Hyperbole.                            Keywords : Language Album, A Thousand suns Album.

Abstract

ABSTRACT                  This research entitled “Analisis Kata Pinjaman Bahasa Inggris dalam Istilah Biologi Bahasa Indonesia”.The objectives of research are to find out the kinds and the changes of the meanings of English loanwords in Indonesian language. In analysing the data, the writer uses Haugen’s theory to find out the types and Baugh’s theory to get the changes of the meanings. To support the analysis, the writer uses Oxford Dictionary and Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia.The result of this research show that based on the theory of Haugen there are three kinds of loanword. Those are loanword without phonemic substitution, loanword with partial phonemic substitution, loanword with complete phonemic substitution and there are two kinds of the changes of meaning such as extension, narrowing, regeneration, and degeneration. Keywords: Loanwords, Changes of meaning, Biological terminology,Sociolinguistics

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research is entitled ?A Deixis Analysis in Selected Nelson Mandela?s Speeches?. In this research the writer focuses on deixis in the speeches. The speeches of Nelson mandela was famous in the last of 20th century. Those speech are: Nelson Mandela?s speech after his release from prison and Nelson Mandela?s speech at his inauguration as a president of South Africa. The purpose of this research are to identify and classify the types of deixis and to analyze the usage of deixis in Nelson Mandela?s Speeches. The data were analyzed based on Levinson?s theory (1983) there are 5 types of deixis, those are: person deixis (first person, second person, third person), place deixis, time deixis, discourse deixis, and social deixis. Deixis belongs to pragmatic. It means ?pointing?.The results of this research show that there are five types of deixis in Nelson Mandela?s Speeches, those are person deixis (first person: I, we, my, myself us, our, ourselves; second person : you, your; and third person : they, it their, his own, himself), places deixis : here, this city, this country this stage, come, this common homeland, this land, time deixis: today, lasted too long, when, back, not so long ago, the time, the moment, three decades, the darkest day in history, on this occasion, 40 years, long and lonely years, the past few years, remaining years of my life, this day, discourse deixis : this and it, and social deixis: your majesties, your highness, my comrades, friends, all political prisoner, the traditional leader, fellow South African, black and white, the masses, distinguished international guest. Additionally, deixis that mostly appears on Nelson Mandela?s speech after his release from prison is first person deiksis ?I? represents Nelson Mandela as a leader who govern black South African  whereas at the second speech deixis that mostly appears on Nelson Mandela?s speech at his inauguration as a president of South Africa is first person deixis ?we? representing that all of South African were united.Keywords : Pragmatic, Deixis, Speech, Nelson Mandela
