Abstract

ABSTRACT This research entitled “Makna Slogan dalam Iklan Elektronik Berbahasa Inggris pada Majalah Berbahasa Indonesia”, is focused on meaning of the mottoes or slogans in electronic advertisements. The aim of this research is to identify, analyze, and describe the types of meaning. The data are collected from several Indonesian magazines and in analyzing data, the writer uses theory from Leech (1974) about two types of meaning. The two types of meaning are conceptual (denotative) and associative meaning divided into six sub-types: connotative, social, affective, collocative, reflective, and thematic. The result of the research shows that the types of meaning of the sentence in the slogans contain conceptual (denotative) and associative meaning. Abstract

ABSTRACT This Skripsi entitled ?The Reflection of Sylvia Plath?s Poems in Her Life? rejects the common people?s opinion that poems are only about sentimentalism and exaggeration of ideas. There are eight poems analyzed in this research. To analyze these poems, the writer used the extrinsic and intrinsic approach. The extrinsic approach includes the condition of social life in the surrounding of Sylvia Plath, and the intrinsic approach includes the element that build the proper poem. The result shows that almost all Sylvia Plath?s poems are connected with her life and people around her, and how worse her life when she live. Abstract

ABSTRACT This research entitled ‘‘Preposition in Drama Away by Michael Gow’’ is written to analyze and classify the form and the meaning of the preposition that are use in drama. A preposition is a word that connects a noun or pronoun with a verb, adjective, or another noun or pronoun by indicating a relationship between the things for which they stand. In analyzing the data, the writer used Quirk Randolph and Harman’s theory, and the data were taken from the Drama Away by Michael Gow. The problems of this research are focused on what are the from and the meaning of preposition. The forms are simple preposition and complex preposition. The meanings of preposition refer to the apposition, cause or reason, comparison, concession, condition, degree, description, direction, design, instrument, manner, material, means, measure, objective genitive, partition, place, purpose, quality, respect, source, time, and value.   Key words: English Preposition, Forms and Meaning, Drama Away by Michael Gow

Abstract

ABSTRACT This skripsi which is entitled “Dampak Jim Crow Laws Terhadap Orang-Orang Kulit Hitam yang Digambarkan dalam Novel The Help Karya Kathryn Stockett” is a study about the social life of American People in 1960 through the characters in the novel. There are two questions to be answered in this research: Howis Jim Crow Laws reflected in the novel  andwhat is the effect of the laws to black people. The aims of this research are to analyze the reflection of the Jim Crow Laws in the novel, and to analyze what the effect of Jim Crow Laws to black people in their social life is. The writer uses theory of Aristotle, George Lukacs and Taineto describe what happened in real life of black people is reflected in a literary work. The intrinsicand extrinsic approaches are applied and the descriptive method is used in this research. The result shows that Jim Crow Laws appears through the story and produces an effect like discrimination that causes black people got treated improperlyseparated and limited in using public facilities, either these laws made white people took a benefit to put blacks in a lower class of society.   Keywords: Effect, Jim Crow Laws, Black People, The Help

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is entitled Noun Phrases in Journal Article Beyond Film: Exploring the Content of Movie by John Scacco. The objectives research is to identify and classify the kinds of noun phrases and to analyze the internal functions of noun phrases. This research used descriptive method. The writer collected the data of noun phrases from article Beyond Film: Exploring the Content of Movie by John Scacco, which consists of 4 pages. After collecting the data, the writer analyzed the internal functions of noun phrases by using the theory of Aarts and Aarts (1982). The results of this research first, there are 90 noun phrases found in journal article Beyond Film: Exploring the Content of Movie by John Scacco. Noun phrases are distinguished in three functions: head, determiner and modifier. The noun phrases that are most widely used is head (65), determiner is 22 include pre determiner (12), central determiner (5) and post determiner (3). There are 9 modifiers include pre modifier (3) and post modifier (6) but discontinuous modifiers are not found in this research. Secondly the result show that the internal function of noun phrases is divided into three: pre modifier, post modifier and discontinuous modifier. The pre modifier found in the journal article: pre modifier realized by adjective phrase (1), noun phrase (1), and a classifying genitive (2) while post modifier can be filled with prepositional phrase (1), finite clause (2) and infinitive clause (1). Adjective phrase (0) and adverb phrase (0) are not found in this research.   KEYWORDS: Internal function, Noun Phrase, Article Beyond Film: Exploring the Content of Movie.

Abstract

ABSTRAKTION Diese Untersuchung bespricht über die soziale Ungleichheiten in Berlin und Jakarta, die es in der Poesien Jakarta von Arifin C. Noer, Berlin 1950 von Rudolf Leonhard,Jakarta von Emha Ainun Nadjib, Berlin von Wolf Biermann gibt. Diese Poesien beschreibenüberdiePerspektivedes Autorsüber die sozialeUngleichheiten in der Gesellschaft. Um die Ziele der Untersuchung zu erreichen, wird deskriptive Methode verwendet. Als theoretische Grundlage wird die Theorien von I. A. Richard verwendet, die Waluyo und Djojosuruto zittiert. Nach dem die PoesienJakarta von Arifin C. Noer und Jakarta von Emha Ainun Nadjib analysiert wurden, haben sie ein gemeinsames Thema, nämlich die sozialen Ungleichheiten des Lebens in der Stadt Jakarta. In der Zwischenzeit, die PoesienBerlin 1950 von Rudolf Leonhard und die Poesie Berlin von Wolf Biermann zeigen, daß es auch die sozialen Ungleichheiten in der Gesellschafft während der Fehde zwischen der Bundes Republik Deutschland und Deutsche Demokratische Republik gibt.   Schluβelwörter : die Poesie, die Perspektive, die soziale Unglechheiten.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research entitled “Deiksis dalam Novel The Notebook Karya Nicholas Sparks”. There are some very common words in our language that can’t be interpreted at all if we don’t know the context, especially the physical context of the speaker. These are words such as here and there, this or that, now and then, yesterday, today or tomorrow, as well as pronouns such as you, me, she, him, it, and them. Some sentences of English are virtually impossible to be understand and if we don’t know who is speaking, about whom, where and when and it’s included in deixis. The objective of research is to identify and analyze the types of deixis and the deixis which is the most used in the novel The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. This research focuses on the novel The Notebook which consists of 213 pages. The research uses qualitative approach in order to find out the types of deixis in the novel The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks supported by Levinson’s Theory. The result of this research shows that there are four types of deixis that could be found in the novel The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks such as person deixis (first person deixis like: my, I, mine, and me, second person deixis like: you, and third person deixis like: she, he, her, his, him, them, and they), temporal deixis like: today, yesterday, later, then ,now etc , spatial deixis like: there, here, discourse deixis like: this story, these things, and social deixis is about the different social class between human like low class, middle class, and high class, but in this research of the novel The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks the writer did not find the social deixis.   Keywords: Deixis, Novel, The Notebook, Pragmatics Analysis.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Language is always related with human. Therefore, to learn more about language is very important to us. Linguistics is the study of language. The study of patterns to make sentences is syntax. This study is entitled “Kalimat – kalimat Minor dalam Film Mr. & Mrs. Smith Karya Doug Liman”. The writer used the theory of Charless Hockett (1958) to identify and analyze the data that have been found in the film. According to Hockett, minor sentence is not complete sentence. There are four types of minor sentence, subjectless minor sentence, vocative minor sentence, aphoristic minor sentence and fragmen minor sentence which are sub categorized into three parts, they are completive fragmen minor sentence, special completive fragmen minor sentence and exclamatory minor sentence. The result of this research shows that there are only three types of minor sentence in the film, such as subjectless minor sentence, vocative minor sentence and fragmen minor sentence. This study is expected to provide more information about minor sentence to the readers.
