Abstract

ABSTRACT This research entitled “Auxiliary Verb in Film The King’s Speech” is an attempt to analyze and describe the auxiliary verbs in the film The King’s Speech. The aim of this research is to identify and identify the form and meaning of the auxiliary verbs used in the film. The method used in this research is descriptive and the theory using Hudson’s concept. The result shows that auxiliary verb can be divided into: (a) primary auxiliaries and (b) modal auxiliaries. Primary auxiliaries are be (am, is, are, was, and were) do (do, does, did), and have (have, has, had). Modals auxiliaries are can, could, may, might, will, would, shall, should, must, be to, used to, need. Primary auxiliaries has no intrinsic meaning it serves purely grammatical function. The meaning of modals auxiliaries in the film The King’s Speech are: Can means ability, hesitation, permission, and suggestion. Could means ability, possibility, permission, suggestion, and request. May means request and possibility. Might means possibility and permission. Will means willingness, prediction, intention, and request. Would means willingness, certainty, intention , and offering. Shall means request,  and willness. Should means suggestion, obligation, possibility, necessity. Must means necessity, suggestion, possibility, obligation, and request. Be to means wish. Abstract

ABSTRAKTION Dieser Untersuchung hat den Titel “Imperativsatz des Deutschen und Talaud-Sprache: eine kontrastive Analyse”. Das Problem dieser Untersuchung ist: Welche Bildung des Imperativsatz gibt es im Deutschen und Talaud-Sprache und Was ist der Unterschied und die Gleichheit zwischen Imperativsatz im Deutschen und Talaud-Sprache. Zur Analyse der Imperativsatz im Deutschen und Talaud Sprache benutzt die Schreiberin die Theorien von Dreyer und Schmitt, Günther und Moeliono. Das Ziel die Untersuchung ist die Bildung des Imperativsatzes im Deutschen und Talaud-Sprache zu finden, zu beschreiben und zu analysieren. Die Daten werden von einigen Bücher gesammelt, die die Untersuchung beziehen und Interview. Um das Ziel der Untersuchung zu erreichen, benutzt die Schreiberin die kontrastive Methode. Das Ergebnis der Untersuchung zeigt, daß die Deutschen und Talaud-Sprache den Unterschied und Gleichheit in der Bildung des Imperativsatzes haben. ------------------------ Stichwörter: Imperativsatz, Deutsch, Talaud-Sprache, kontrastive Analyse

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is entitled “Written Language Production of Student with Disgraphia in Faculty of Humanity Sam Ratulangi University”. The objectives of this research are to describe dysgraphia itself and to analyze the influences of dysgraphia on the written language production of the student in Faculty of Humanity, Sam Ratulangi University. This research uses a descriptive method. There are three steps to finish this research, the first step is preparation. In this step, the writer reads the related theories of psycholinguistics in concern with language disorder, in this case dysgraphia. The second step is data collection. The writer gathers several students of English Student Association who are the participants of English debate and speech club, then examines them with the proper test suggested by Gvion and Friedman (2008:5). The third step is data analysis. The writer analyze the influences on the written language production of the student with dysgraphia by using the theories of Caplan (1992:192), Hatch (1983:1), Marcie dan Hecaen (1973:3), and Fanis dan Linda (2011:2). The results of this research show that dysgraphia is an impairment in writing which caused not only by the brain damaged but also by the cognitive and linguistic disorder. The student has a lexical dysgraphia. Dysgraphia also affects the written language production of the student orthographically. The student makes errors while writing, mostly the vowels. It does not affect his intelligent but his academic grade. Keywords : Psycholinguistics, Language Production, Language Disorder, Dysgraphia.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study is an attempt to describe and analyze the family names in English and the Moi language. In this research the writer uses Hickerson’s theory and McVetty’s concept. The aims of this research are to identify and classify and to find out the kinds and meaning of the family names in English and in Moi language and to contrast them, in order to find the similarities and the differences. There are two significant contributions from this study. Theoretically this study gives contributions to the language development especially in Moi language’s community. Practically it enriches the knowledge of students in learning language especially the kinds and meanings in terms of family names for Moi language. The results show that five types of the English family names have (1) patronymic family names, (2) family names referring to place of origin or locality, (3) family names refering to occupation, (4) family names referring to nickname as well as family names adopted from given name, and (5) family names referring to identity of its family; whereas Moi family names have (1) family names referring to place of origin or locality, (2) family names referring to occupation, (3) family names referring to nickname as well as adopted from given name, and (4) family names referring to identity of its family. Abstract

ABSTRACT   Metaphor and Simile are two of the figures of speech that take two different things by comparing one with another. The use of metaphor and simile helps speakers or writers to give a clear description throughcomparison or contrast. The writer decided to analyze metaphor and simile figures of speech that use comparison makers such as like, as, as if in Song of Solomon. The problems of this research are focused on the kind and the meaning of metaphor and simile found in Song of Solomon. The aims of the research are to identify, classify, and analyze the forms and the meaning of metaphor and simile in Song of Solomon. The method used in this research is descriptive method. In collecting data, the writer focused on identifying the words, phrases, or parts of sentences. The result showed that the forms of metaphor employed in the verses of Song of Solomon can be categorized as anthropomorfis metaphor, animal metaphor, and sineshetic metaphor, based on Lakoff’s theory, and the simile was analyzed based on Fromilhague’stheory. In terms of the meaning metaphor and simile have similarity and dissimilarity. Similarity in metaphor and simile is the meaning of both figures of speech have the element of comparing two objects. and dissimilarity of metaphor and simile is metaphor does not use the words of comparison, but simile uses the words of comparison such as: like, as, as if.   Keywords: Metaphor and Simile Meaning in Song of Solomon

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research which is entitled “Analisis Semiotik Koleksi Foto Jurnalistik dalam Artikel 2014: The Year in Photos” is focused on sign that can be found in a news photo. The aims of this research are to identify and classify kinds of sign and to analyze and describe meaning of a sign that can be found in news photo. This research uses the Peirce’s theory in the process of identifying and classifying kinds of sign and the process of analyze and describe the meaning of a sign. The source of news photo was taken from aphoto essay article which is entitled 2014: The Year in Photos, published by The Atlantic on their website at www.theatlantic.com. The method of this research is descriptive method. Every sign that can be found in a news photo will be identified and classified into three kinds of sign which are index, icon, and symbol. Then, every sign meaning will be analyzed and described according to the process called semiosis. The result of this research shows that three kinds of sign which are index, icon, and symbol can be found in fifteen selected news photos, and every sign meaning from each sign found in fifteen selected news photos are different from each other. ______________________________________________________________________ Keywords: semiotic analysis, sign, kinds of sign, meaning of sign, news photo

Abstract

GANGGUAN SEKSUAL TOKOH-TOKOH UTAMA DALAM NOVEL FIFTY SHADES OF GREY KARYA F. SCOTT FITZGERALD Oleh: Widyawati Lambanaung   ABSTRACT As the requirement to accomplish the Bachelor Degree in English Literature at Faculty of Humanities in Sam Ratulangi University, this skripsi entitled “Sexual Disorder of the Major Characters in the novel Fifty Shades of Grey by E. L James is completed and submitted. The aims of this analysis are to analyze and classify the kind of ‘sexual disorder’ of the major characters in the novel Fifty Shades of Grey. The elaboration of major characters’ images, the characterization of the major characters, the identification and the classification the kinds of ‘sexual disorder’ is included and tied with the plot. Also, to describe the effects of “sexual disorder’ to the major characters themselves. Intrinsically, in characterization of the major characters, the paradigm by Stanton’ (1983) is chosen and extrinsically, in psychological analysis that is focused on sexual disorder of the major characters, the paradigm of abnormality characteristic and sexual disorder by Davison, Neale and Kring (2012) is used. The analysis is served by using descriptive method that is divided into intrinsic and extrinsic approaches. The intrinsic approach aims to analyze the major characters and the extrinsic approach is used to analyze the ‘sexual disorder’ of the major characters and its effects. The result of this analysis states that the major characters have the characteristic of abnormality in terms of sexual disorder. The major character Christian Grey has some kinds of sexual disorders: fetishism, voyeurism, froteurism, sadism sexual and masochism sexual. The major character Anastasia Steele has masochism sexual. The effects caused by the sexual disorder itself to the major characters, are: personal distress, determination, mental and physical inflictions, abnormality, destruction and separation of the relationship.

Abstract

Abstract The research is entitled Motherhood in the Two Short Stories The Shawl and Two Kinds. The objective of this research is to identify, classify, and analyze the motherhood theme as the main theme in the two short stories The Shawl and Two Kinds. The objective of this research is also to compare the reflection of motherhood in these both short stories. The writer conducted this research by using descriptive method. The data were collected by focusing on the character, plot, setting, symbol and atmosphere as the elements of prose which reveal the motherhood theme. In analyzing the data, the writer used theory of Stanton (1965) as the main theory and Perrine (1970) and Wellek and Warren (1949) as the supporting theories. The writer also used Kartono’s (2007) idea to identify the motherhood in the whole sequences of the story. The result of this research shows that these short stories reflect the motherhood portrayed by the intrinsic elements such as character, plot, setting, symbol and atmosphere of the short stories. Both of these short stories have similarities in terms of the reflection of motherhood. The similarities are both characters of mother in the two short stories The Shawl and Two Kinds show their love through the softness, sacrifice, patience, and looking forward for the future.
