Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is entitled “Conjunction in the Songs’ lyiric of Avenged Sevenfold Group Band in the album “Nightmare” that is also known as A7x. In the aspect of function, conjunction is divided into coordinative conjunction and subordinative conjunction. The object of this study is to see the conjunctions in the lyirics and see the function and meaning of the conjunctions. The method used is descriptive, and the concepts of Payne (2011), and Quirk and Greenbaum (1999). The result of this research shows that,  the coordinate conjunctions found are and, but, or, for, so and still. Meanwhile the subordinate conjunctions found are where, when, that, before, how, as long as, as soon as, since, if, because, while, until, than, once, and  as. Coordinate conjunctions connect words, phrases, clauses, and sentences. Meanwhile subordinate conjunctions connect clauses as in the concept. Besides, the subordinate conjunctions found also connect phrase and clause, and clause and sentence where these two things are not appropriate with the concept used, and the meaning of the conjunctions are fit to the concept. Abstract

ABSTRACT This research entitled “Kata Benda dalam Bahasa Inggris dan Bahasa Mongondow (Suatu Analisis Kontrastif)”. The objects of the research are to identify and classify the kinds and functions of nouns in English and Mongondownese language. The writer used the concept by Thomson and Martinet (1986), and analyzed them by using contrastive analysis to find out the differences based on the theory of Lado (1971). The English data for this research were taken from some grammatical books and Mongondownese data were taken by some informants who speak Mongondow language well. The result shows that there are differences between the function of nouns in English and Mongondow language in terms of function on possessive case. The possessive form in English attach to the subject, but the possessive case in Mongondow language has its own word. Keywords: Nouns in English and Bolaang Mongondow Language: A Contrastive Analysis

Abstract

ABSTRACT The title of this research is “Personal Pronouns in The Novel The Stars Shine Down By Sidney Sheldon ”. The objectives of this research are to identify, to collect and to analyze the form of personal pronouns in the novel. The data are collected by focusing on the use personal pronouns by the author of the novel. The problem of the research is : what are the personal pronouns in term of form and function in the novel The Stars Shine Down By Sidney Sheldon. I, she, we, they, can be subjects of a verb. Example : I saw it. He knows you. They live near here. Complements of the verb to be : Example : It is I. Me, him, her, us, them can be direct objects of a verb : Example : I saw her. Tom likes them. Those concepts above will be used for identifying and analyzing data. The result shows that the forms of personal pronouns in the novel The Stars Shine Down By Sidney Sheldon are in singular and plural forms. In terms of the function, there are personal pronouns that have the function as a subject, object, possessive adjective and possessive pronoun in the sentences.   Keywords: Personal Pronouns in the novel The Stars Shine Down by Sidney  Sheldon, Contrastive Analysis.

Abstract

ABSTRAKTION Diese Untersuchung bespricht über die Komparation der Struktur des Märchen ?Der Fuchs und Das Pferd? dan ?Die Bienenkönigin??. Das Ziel dieser Untersuchung ist die Funktion Aktion des Täters und der beiden Märchen zu bestimmen und zu vergleichen. Um das Ziel dieser Untersuchung zu erreichen, nämlich zwei Märchen zu analyzieren und zu vergleichen, werden die deskriptive_ und komparative Methode benutzt. Als die theoretische Grundlage wird die Theorie von Vladimir Propp uber Morfologie des Märchens verwendet. Nach dem die beiden Märchen analysiert werden, kommt die Schreiberin zum folgenden Schlu?: der Struktur der beiden Märchen haben die Ähnlichkeiten und Unterschiede. Die Ähnlichkeiten sind 6 Funktionen des Täters mit ihre Symbole: Beteiligung (?), Übel (A), Vermittlung (B), Sieg ( ?), gewaltige Aufgabe (M), Aufgabenerledigung (N). Die Unterschiede sind ?Der Fuchs und Das Pferd? hat 11 Funktion des Täters während ?Die Bienenkönigin? hat nur 10 Funktion des Täters. ----------------- Stichwörter: Vergleichende Analyse, di Struktur der Märchen.

Abstract

Abstract This study entitled Interrogative Sentence in the Novel Murder in The Mews by Agatha Christie is used to identify, classify and analyze the interrogative sentence found in the novel. The data have been collected from the dialogs among the characters found in the novel. The data then analyzed based on Aarts and Aarts concept (1982). In analyzing data the descriptive method is used. The result shows that interrogative sentence found in the novel are yes/no question, question tag, and wh-question. Three kinds of interrogative sentences found in the novel, there are also found . interrogative sentence without question word, one or two words followed by question mark in terms of its function in communication which can function as question. ─────────────────────────────────────────────────── Keywords: Interrogative sentence, grammatical analysis, novel Murder in the Mewsby Agatha Christie.

Abstract

ABSTRACT   This research entitled Negative Sentences in the Film The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. The objectives of this research are to identify, to collect and to analyze the negative forms of negative sentences. This research used descriptive method. The writer collected the data of negative sentences from the subtitles in the film The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. After collecting the data, the writer analyzed forms of negative sentences and found out the negative sentences in this film that are mostly used by using the theories of Aarts and Aarts (1982) and Azar (1993). The result of this research shows that there are 215 negative sentences found in the film The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. The writer only analyzed 150 data. The forms of negative sentences consist of negative sentences which are formed of do (43), not (37), auxiliary verb and not (24), negative prefixes (17), negative interrogatives (12), no (5), negative sentences contain have (4), question tag (2), never, rarely, seldom, hardly (ever), scarcely (ever), barely (ever) (3), negative sentences contain do and let’s (1), negative sentences contain do and be (1), negative sentences contain have and do (1). Negative sentences that contains daren’t, usedn’t, needn’t (0), negative suffixes (0) are not found in this research. Negative Sentence which is mostly used in this film is negative sentence formed of do with 43 data.   ­­KEYWORDS: Negative Sentences, Film The Fault in Our Stars, Descriptive Analysis

Abstract

ABSTRACT   This reseach entitled Commisive Act in the novel Herzog by Saul Bellow. In pragmatic field, communication is a fission of problem. Leech (1983) devide the speech situation into five aspects one of them is speech act. Speech act is a communication act. Austin (1962) verify the speech act into three categories that are locutionary act, illocutionary act, and perlocutionary act. Austin classifies the utterance according to illocutionary meaning that are verdictives, executives, commisives, behabitives and expositives. Commisives act is a speech act that ask the speaker doing something in the future such as promising. This research attemps to identify, classify, and analyze the commisive act in the novel Herzog by Saul Bellow. The identified data are analyzed according to Austin theory, and in analyzing the data, the writer uses descriptive method. The result of this research show the kinds and function of the commisive act according to Austin. The result of this research show that the kinds of these entire commisive act found in the novel are persuade, offering, engage, plan, bet, agree, persuade, oppose, espouse, guarantee, engage, promise and swear.
